Its diagnosis is done by a very old-school method called Electrocardiogram (ECG). This paper proposes a simple method to detect and identify the R peak, P peak and the T peaks from a noise free ECG signal. This is achieved with the help of histogram based algorithm, which has been applied on MIT-BIH noise stress test database obtained from physio.net. The method has been chosen as it does not involve any complex mathematical model. The algorithm has been implemented and tested in MATLAB for initial testing. It has been further implemented in Field-programmable gate array (FPGA), VIRTEX-5 device as hardware platform. Xilinx 14.7 ISE design suite with VHDL RTL coding has been used for peak detection and identification purpose. The performance of the proposed technique has been evaluated and compared against previous implementations.
For Internet-based voice transmission, digital telephony, intercoms, telephone answering machines... more For Internet-based voice transmission, digital telephony, intercoms, telephone answering machines, and mass storage, we need to compress audio signals. ADPCM is one of the techniques to reduce the bandwidth in voice communication. More frequently, the smaller file sizes of compressed but lossy formats are used to store and transfer audio. Their small file sizes allow faster Internet transmission, as well as lower consumption of space on memory media. However, lossy formats trade off smaller file size against loss of audio quality, as all such compression algorithms compromise available signal detail. This paper discusses the implementation of ADPCM algorithm for audio compression of .wav file. It yields a compressed file 1⁄4 of the size of the original file. The sound quality of the audio file is maintained reasonably after compression.

There are two popular rendering methods, commonly referred to as rasterization and ray tracing. The standard rendering method, known as rasterization, is a local illumination rendering method. In contrast ray tracing is a global illumination rendering method. In standard method of computing 3-dimentional images, advanced effects such as reflections and shadows are done using tricks and are not computed with accuracy, thus diminishing the scope for further progress in simulating real life images. This paper describe an alternative method called ray-tracing, to investigate if it can replace rasterization with capability of creating more realism. It further entails how fixed pipeline architecture can improve performance of ray-tracing algorithm. To demonstrate this idea, hardware has been designed with a fixed pipelined architecture. Ray generator entity generates r...

Signal processing is an essential component of wireless sensor network node. One of the most widely used operations in this is finite-impulse response (FIR) filtering. Multiplication is at the core of FIR filter and saving power at the multiplication level can significantly impact the lifetime of a sensor node. In this, we propose design of low power FIR filter and implementations of the same on FPGA. MATLAB is used for an Equiripple or Remez Exchange (Parks-McClellan) technique of FIR filter design. A notch FIR filter is designed for the removal of power line interference in ECG signal which is a very important step in the...

Yet, being a country which has the capacity to produce three crops in a year, the ceaseless cases of farmer suicides has become an ignominious fact. The development of agriculture has much to do with the economic welfare of the country.Indian monsoon being erratic in nature, there is irregularity in the distribution of rainfall throughout the year. The irrigation system helps the farmers to have less dependency on rain water. Balanced irrigation has been considered essential for optimal development of crops. Superfluous irrigation leaches nutritive elements of the soil as water seeps down due to gravitational force of the earth. It also causes water logging. Similarly, scant irrigation can be harmful as water does not reach the lithosphere. Irrigation practices in India need constant monitoring. This paper focuses on reducing the water wastage by using smart irrigation. It discusses how Internet of Things (IoT) can be used to achieve optimal irrigation by continuously monitoring the water level. It also discusses how water supply can be maintained using the proposed mobile application.

These are the peaceful gatherings wherein, millions of people from all corners of the world come to perform their holy rituals. However, during these events, pilgrims getting lost in the crowd, medical emergencies and stampede are likely to happen. In such incidents, authorities involved in the crowd management face difficulties in identifying and locating the lost, the injured, the ill or the dead person. Therefore, there is always delay in reaching the medical help to the needy person. This paper presents a real-time pilgrim tracking and health monitoring system that has been designed and implemented using Arduino in order to help the authority solve this problem. A wearable unit is provided to each pilgrim for sensing the location and vital health parameters of that person. The authority in the control room is connected to the wearable unit using Global system for mobile communication. The significance of this system is to pilgrims as well as to the authority. The pilgrims can call for help when needed. The visual display of the pilgrims' data is available on the computer for the authority in the control room. Adverse health is indicated through the alert message on the GUI. Additionally, there are provisions for informing the relatives through short message service and maintaining records of the data of pilgrims for reference.
