I was born on the 6th of May, 1966. I am a native of Ojoku in Oyun Local Government of Kwara State, Nigeria. I attended National Primary School, Abule-Ijesha, Lagos, Nigeria, for my Primary Education, Arabic Training Centre (Markaz), Agege, Lagos, for my Secondary Education and University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, where I bagged my B.A, M.A, PGDE and PhD Degrees. I also have PGD in Teaching Arabic as a foreign Language from King Saud University, Riyadh, Kingom of Saudi Arabia. Currently I am a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Arabic, University of Ilorin, Ilorin.

This paper discusses Speech Making as an art of prose writing in Arabic literature in Nigeria. In order to establish its essence, quality and goal, the Paper studies the growth and development of the Art in Arabic Literature with emphasis on the different literary periods. It is discovered, however, that Art of Speech Making commenced in Nigeria from the Colonial Era with imitation of Arabs in their speech making and subsequently developed into the height of creativity, originality and qualitative beauty. The factors that aid this development are establishment of formal Arabic schools, Higher Arabic and Islamic Institutions and Universities that offer Arabic as a course of study. Other factors also include publication of academic journals, periodicals, Arabic magazines and composition books. Others are organizing of Islamic social gatherings and ceremonies and remembrance of Islamic historic events which arouse the feelings of Arabic literary scholars and gear them towards composing prose and poetry. The themes of this Art cover the fields of Literature, Politics, Social system, Economy, Education, Sport, Science and others. Initially, it was characterized with badi’iyyaat aspect of Rhetoric, but later it graduates into simple, well-constructed and captivating expressions as a result of interaction between Nigerian scholars and their Arab counterparts through student exchange, modern books and references or through information technologies. The paper, in its conclusion, recommends floating of Arabic daily newspaper. This would surely further improves the quality and quantity of Art of speech Making in Arabic in Nigeria.
Nigeria is a country in West Africa, in Sub-Saharan Africa, far from the Arab countries yet got in contact with Arabic language. Indeed, the Arabic language became Nigerian’s official language at a point in time and influences some of her local languages. This paper attempts to study the influence of Arabic culture, particularly Arabic language, in Nigeria by tracing its growth and development and to examine the factors responsible for its survival in a difficult terrain. The paper is divided into four parts. The first part discusses the advent of Arabic language in Nigeria; the Second part dwells on Arabic Education in Nigeria; while the third part focuses on the influence of Arabic language on some Nigerian indigenous languages and vice versa. The fourth part examines Arabic Literature in Nigeria. While the conclusion contains the summary of the paper and some recommendations.
