Abdullahi Alanamu AbdulRahaman, Ph.D., the former Head of the Department of Plant Biology was employed as an Assistant Lecturer in 2002 to the University of Ilorin, Ilorin in the then Department of Biological Sciences. He obtained a Nigeria Certificate of Education (NCE) in 1992 from the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, B.Sc. [Hons] Degree (Botany) in 1998 from the Department of Biological Sciences, M.Sc. Degree (Botany) and Ph.D. Degree (Plant Biology) in 2002 and 2010 from the Departments of Botany and Plant Biology of University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria respectively. He equally obtained Higher National Diploma in Public Administration in 1996 from Kwara State Polytechnics, Ilorin, and Certificate in Data Processing in 1997 from the University of Ilorin Computer Centre, Ilorin. AbdulRahaman has steadily risen to the rank of a Professor. He published many articles in reputable journals, both locally and internationally. Prof. AbdulRahaman had served the Department, Faculty, and the University as a whole in various capacities (administratively and as a member of multiple committees). Prof. AbdulRahaman is a member of many academic societies such as the Botanical Society of Nigeria (BOSON), Nigerian Society of Experimental Biology (NISEB), Society for Conservation of Phytofuel and Sciences, Linnean Society of London, and Society of Biology. He is a fellow of the Linnean Society of London (FLS), Secretary to the Society for Conservation of Phytofuel and Sciences, and an Assistant Editor for the International Journal of Phytofuel and Sciences. Prof. AbdulRahaman attended and presented papers in many scientific and academic conferences and workshops. His areas of expertise include Plant Anatomy and Wood Technology, Plant Taxonomy, Molecular Systematics, Environmental Botany, Palynology, Forensic Botany, and Anatomical Pharmacognosy. Currently, my research interest is on correlating glandular trichome density to the total essential oil yields of some species of Ocimum (Lamiaceae). Also, attempts are on micropropagation of these plants and modifying genes responsible for glandular trichomes production with the aim of increasing their trichomes densities. He was at the COMSATS Institute of Information of Technology (CIIT), Islamabad, Pakistan as a Senior Visiting Research Scholar under the sponsorship of TWAS-CIIT Visiting Scholar Fellowships. Prof. AbdulRahaman has supervised several research projects both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His hobbies include football, athletics, reading, music, and traveling.
