Following a diagnosis of infertility, an increasing number of couples are turning to Medically Assisted Reproduction (MAR) to achieve a pregnancy, which can have a detrimental impact on the individual's Quality-of-Life, leading to heightened risks of anxious-depressive symptoms and stress. Little is known about men’s infertility-related Quality-of-Life, and among the variables potentially associated with it, the role of sexual beliefs is neglected. Methods . This study included 166 participants, with 83 men attending a MAR pathway, while a control group of 83 subjects, paired by age, marital status, and number of children was drawn from the general population. Sexual-Modes Questionnaire, Depression-Anxiety-Stress-Scale, Arizona Sexual Experience Scale, and Fertility Quality-of-Life Questionnaire were administered. Results . Among men undergoing MAR, higher levels of erection-related thoughts were associated with a worse Quality-of-Life, but when they occur alongside s...

Mindfulness skills can have the role of a protective buffer against stressful periods. The quarantine imposed to contain the COVID-19 spread had a negative impact on daily habits and healthy behaviors (including social interactions). An increased attachment to objects might be one of the under-recognized psychological consequences of these difficult times, yet no study focused on CHS. Through an online survey in men who were on quarantine during the pandemic, this exploratory survey examined the prevalence of men reporting CHS during this period and explored the role of mindfulness skills on CHS controlling for anxious-depressive/stress symptoms. Forty-three men from the general population completed the Obsessive Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R), Cognitive and Affective Mindfulness Scale-Revised (CAMS-R) and Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21). Twenty-eig...

This aspect might provide valuable information about therapists’ difficulties during sessions and support supervisory practice, since a proportion of OCD patients drop out due to issues related to the therapeutic relationship. In a sample of therapists, we explored the effects of therapists’ orientation (cognitive behavioural versus psychodynamic) and perfectionistic traits on their emotional responses towards patients with OCD, controlling for other variables potentially related to emotional response towards patients (i.e., therapists’ gender/age and patient’s comorbid personality disorders). Ninety-four therapists (74 women and 20 men; mean age = 42.07 ± 10.17 years), of which 47 (50%) had a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and 47 (50%) a psychodynamic orientation matched on gender and age, completed the Therapist Response Questionnaire and Frost Multidimensional Perf...

Although in the Italian socio-cultural context religion is a predominant feature of society, the role of religiosity as a psychological buffer against depression in adolescence is understudied. The present study explored (a) the association between recent stressful life events and depressive tendencies and (b) whether higher religiosity could be a predictor of lower depressive symptomatology controlling for the effects of stressful events in a sample of Italian adolescents. Two hundred seventy-five adolescents completed the Children's Depression Inventory and two questionnaires measuring religiosity and perceived stressful events, respectively. Fifteen percent of the sample reported depressive tendencies above clinical thresholds. Having experienced school problems and parents' separation was associated with higher depressive symptomato...

Erectile dysfunction was assessed by SDI (Sexual Dysfunction Interview) and measured by the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF). Beliefs about sexuality, as well as cognitive and emotional factors of sexual function were measured respectively by Sexual Dysfunctional Beliefs Questionnaire (SDBQ) and Sexual Modes Questionnaire (SMQ). Results show in dysfunctional group an higher level of dysfunctional or irrational beliefs, of negative emotions and automatic thoughts during sexual activity. Beyond this, our data show high correlations between automatic thoughts and sexual functioning, and between worry and sexual functioning These results emphasize the role of cognitive-emotional processes on erectile dysfunction development and maintenance.

The international and national literature codified specific procedures held necessary for the validation integrity. Method: 17 validation interviews, conducted in the 1998-2002 years, were confronted with 20 interviews, implemented in the 2003-2008 years; all were evaluated according to 9 criteria, founded upon the scientific literature. Results: in spite of the growth of the number of correct validations in last years, 2/3 of such validations aren't methodologically adequate. Conclusions: the low quality of the examined validations underlines the importance of training programs to increase the experts competence and the judges discrimination skill between well done and incorrect validations.Key words: child sexual abuse, validation, neurosciences, false memories.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) subtypes in prepubertal children is an understudied research ... more Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) subtypes in prepubertal children is an understudied research area. The Obsessive Compulsive Inventory-Child Version (OCI-CV) is a recently developed self-report tool, which, differently from other existing measures, assesses OCD subtypes in 8 to17-year-old children and adolescents. However, studies have examined the psychometric properties of the OCICV in mixed groups composed of children and adolescents, but no study has used only child groups, although the clinical features of OCD in children are different compared to those in adolescents. This study investigated factor structure, reliability, concurrent/divergent validity and the incremental and predictive validity of the Italian OCI-CV in a large non-clinical group of 8 to 11-year-old children. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses showed a three-factor structure without 7 of the original items: Pure Obsessions, Washing/Neutralising, Hoarding/Ordering. Scores on the OCI-CV Washing/ Neutralising were moderately correlated with measures of OCD and panic/agoraphobia characteristics and weakly with other anxious aspects and depression. Scores on OCI-CV Pure Obsessions moderately correlated with measures of depression and anxiety except for physical injury anxiety, whereas scores on OCI-CV moderately correlated only with OCD characteristics. Higher scores on the OCI-CV Washing/Neutralising at T0 (β = 0,10, t = 2,56, p < 0,05) but not scores on the OCI-CV Pure Obsessions and OCI-CV Hoarding/Ordering, predicted higher scores on the SCAS OCD at one-year follow up. Differently from previous studies, the Italian version of the OCI-CV showed adequate psychometric properties with a three-factor instead of six-factor structure, without seven items

Vulnerability factors for obsessive-compulsive (OC) features in immigrant youth are under-studied. The migration process can have a highly stressful impact on the psychological wellbeing of the individual and it may represent a precipitating factor for different forms of psychopathology. Little is known about the occurrence of OC traits. Unlike other European countries, immigration to Italy is a recent phenomenon. In community children/early adolescents, this study compared OC general symptoms/subtypes and vulnerability cognitive factors amongst Italian natives, first- and second-generation immigrants, and examined whether such vulnerability factors moderate the relation between immigrant status and OC symptoms/subtypes, beyond socio-demographic/clinical variables. Methods. Two hundred sixty-eight children/early adolescents (99 natives, 82 and 87 first- and second-generation immigrants respectively) completed the Obsessive Belief Questionnaire-Child Version, Obsessive Co...
