La lettura della monografia di Enzo Portalupi può condurre studiosi di formazioni anche spiccatam... more La lettura della monografia di Enzo Portalupi può condurre studiosi di formazioni anche spiccatamente diverse ad addentrarsi in un tempo e uno spazio assai vasti, senza mai perdere il filo d'Arianna che, consegnato in apertura d'opera, porta a conclusioni puntuali, provate, promettenti di ulteriori scoperte. Ciò accade, a parere di chi scrive, per la ricchezza e la pertinenza dei dati a partire dai quali muove l'indagine e insieme per il rigore metodologico che l'accompagna. Esteso è l'arco temporale, dal"l'inizio della letteratura cristiana latina (metà del secondo secolo)" al "1274, anno della morte di Tommaso d'Aquino" (p. 31), anche se l'archivio lessicografico riporta dati da alcuni testi "(come il Pontificale di Guglielmo Durando, alcune traduzioni di Guglielmo di Moerbeka o alcune opere di Bonaventura) che sono o possono essere successivi alla morte di Tommaso" (n. 35, p. 32); decisamente ampia la base testuale: un corpus di 3000 testi (tratti da 795 opere di 294 diversi autori), presente nel CD-ROM che accompagna il volume, corpus in larga misura coincidente, ma non identico (pp. 33-34), a quello dei 3040 testi analizzati nella tesi di dottorato, premessa per la presente pubblicazione. Se di base appunto si tratta, nella quale individuare prima, annotare poi e infine interpretare tutte e sole le occorrenze di sincerus, sinceritas e della relativa famiglia tematica (sincere, sinceris,-is, sinceriter sincero,-are) oltre che degli antonimi insincerus e insinceritas), il rapporto fra volume cartaceo e CD-ROM "annesso" va ben inteso: non come quello tra il lavoro che conta e un'appendice marginale e omissibile, ma come il nesso tra la miniera, l'oro grezzo estratto (presenti nel CD-ROM) e l'oreficeria con i suoi ferri del mestiere (presentati nel volume). Chi scrive, in difetto delle approfondite competenze medievistiche e patristiche pur tanto pertinenti all'opera, si è concentrata sul profilo semasiologico e più ampiamente semantico-concettuale della ricerca, che peraltro persegue proprio obiettivi di tal genere: la "questione della 'sincerità" esige "chiarimenti concettuali" cui l'A. intende pervenire affrontando il problema "in prospettiva lessicografica". Così viene motivata e inquadrata la procedura d'analisi nell'Introduzione. Coerentemente, il capitolo dedicato alle Conclusioni e integrazioni (pp. 259-345) si chiude con un paragrafo dedicato a "sincerus, sinceritas e il concetto della sincerità". Chiudono il volume un breve Epilogo; la Bibliografia (pp. 351-381), l'Indice degli autori antichi e medievali (fino al 1500), l'Indice degli autori moderni e contemporanei, l'Indice delle parole notevoli, la lista di Autori e opere presenti nell'archivio lessicografico. Nel mezzo si distende la ricerca vera e propria, di cui nell'Introduzione vengono esplicitati l'oggetto e il metodo. Al"l'età dei Padri" è dedicato il primo capitolo (pp. 87-153), al "l'età medievale" il secondo (pp. 155-257). Ritengo decisamente pregevole l'impostazione metodologica, linguistico-testual-computazionale che caratterizza l'indagine e ne garantisce la qualità dei risultati. Offre infatti a chiunque lo desideri la possibilità di ripercorrere i passi compiuti, di reperire e vagliare i testi-fonte, di controllare le codifiche lessicali e grammaticali attribuite alle occorrenze dei termini oggetto d'analisi, insomma di soppesare il trattamento di ciascuna unità del linguaggio-oggetto prima di cimentarsi con la valutazione dell'apparato metalinguistico assunto e di pronunciarsi sulla sintesi conclusiva. È l'A. stesso a rendere partecipe il lettore delle condizioni remote che hanno preparato la ricerca: dopo la laurea in Università Cattolica e l'incontro, determinante, con P. Busa S.J., il dottoratosuggeritogli da P. Busa-all'Università Cattolica di Lovanio sotto la guida di P. The paper aims to evaluate the semantic-terminological effect on the use of the Latin lexicon tha... more The paper aims to evaluate the semantic-terminological effect on the use of the Latin lexicon that are shaped by a particular author, given the complete documentation of the occurrences of his lemmata (Index Thomisticus), further supplied by ongoing syntactic annotation, but nevertheless requiring proper, theoretically well-founded semantic analysis and lexicographic production. We propose linking the rich theoretical tradition which has produced the Prague Dependency Treebank (PDT) and the correlated Tectogrammatical Annotation (TGA) to the objectives of the Bicultural Thomistic Lexicon (LTB). To do this, we will examine and discuss Havránek's contribution to the shaping of standard language, especially through the distinctive, creative procedure he calls intellectualisation. At the same time, we will outline the effect determined by the use-established in all its extensions-of an expression (lexical item or noun phrase). Given that the user-Thomas Aquinas-was an author who profoundly influenced subsequent thought, the creation or codification of a terminological value of the item will be investigated.

Marty (1847–1914), a Swiss pupil of the philosopher Franz Brentano, was called to the German Univ... more Marty (1847–1914), a Swiss pupil of the philosopher Franz Brentano, was called to the German University in Prague in 1880. According to Brentano’s ‘empirical standpoint’, he devoted a great deal of his philosophy of language to descriptive semasiology. His model intertwines general grammar, logic and psychology. Two case studies are considered: the theory of judgment vs. sentences without subjects, and the theory of relationships vs. case theories. He wishes to establish agreement with linguists he feels close to, both because of their knowledge of linguistic facts and rules and because they, too, are keen on the enquiry regarding language functions and invariant structures – which remains a desirable objective.

La fondazione di una rivista e il linguaggio agìto Vorrei iniziare questo breve contributo sulla ... more La fondazione di una rivista e il linguaggio agìto Vorrei iniziare questo breve contributo sulla seconda metà dell'ormai secolare vicenda della «Rivista di Filosofia Neo-Scolastica» non tanto soffermandomi sulla filosofia del linguaggio come specializzazione scientifica o professionale, quanto piuttosto evidenziando che una rivista scientifica, una rivista di filosofia in specie, e la nostra senza eccezione, con il linguaggio intrattiene una relazione non solo di settore, come con un ambito di specializzazione appunto, bensì costitutiva. Letteralmente, senza linguaggio essa non sarebbe. Esordisco dunque con l'enunciare una tesi che mi è cara e che finora non ha trovato-a quanto mi consta-smentita, eppure ben raramente acquisita fino a trarne le debite conseguenze: per filosofare il linguaggio è una condizione necessaria, anche se non sufficiente. In altre sedi si potrà argomentare più articolatamente tale tesi. Qui penso basti osservare che: a) la «Rivista di Filosofia Neo-Scolastica» costituisce, a oggi, un atto di parola pubblico, ininterrotto da un secolo, anni di guerra inclusi 1 , avvicendamenti generazionali pure; SAVINA RAYNAUD

Cet article entend reconstruire la première occurrence, les sélections lexicales, la construction... more Cet article entend reconstruire la première occurrence, les sélections lexicales, la construction syntagmatique et la valeur sémantique et épistémique de l'une des dénominations classiques, dans le Cercle de Prague, de la PFP : aktualní členění věty. Forgée par Mathesius en 1939, elle est la synthèse dense d'une tradition linguistique et philosophique dont les racines sont ancrées en partie dans la terminologie grammaticale grecque-l'articulation-et en partie dans la psychologie empirique de Brentano et de son école-la psychologie et la philosophie de l'acte-, toutes deux renvoyant invariablement à Aristote. Nous rendons compte ici du rôle de la métaphore biologique et motrice d'articulation, qui explique le dynamisme communicatif de l'énonciation, au centre des recherches de syntaxe fonctionnelle, tout en promouvant une conception gestaltique de l'énoncé.

The centenary of Brentano\u2019s death provides the opportunity to witness the leading position c... more The centenary of Brentano\u2019s death provides the opportunity to witness the leading position carved out by his thought within the centennial history of \uabRivista di Filosofia Neo-Scolastica\ubb, seeking to point out in what extent Brentano\u2019s philosophy can be still considered \u2018contemporary\u2019. Specifically, most of the contemporary studies addressed to Brentano\u2019s philosophy clearly show that the role of utmost importance he played, and still plays, within the history of philosophy is not only due to his introduction and discussion of the notion of intentionality. In the last decades indeed, specific attention has been payed (a) to Brentano\u2019s ethical theory, (b) to his overall assessment of philosophy and (c) in arguing for the idea that psychology should to be considered in the same manner as a rigorous science. This paper is aimed at outlining the plan of this special issue devoted to Brentano\u2019s thought, briefly presenting the themes addressed in the essays submitted by expert scholars. Thematically speaking the topics addressed in the papers clearly mirror, on the one hand, the fruitfulness of Brentano\u2019s ethics and, on the other, they shed light on a set of themes that support a more accurate consideration of his account of philosophy

Image, meaning, truth : Austro-German Denkpsychologie : facing the challenge, 2017

How is it possible to rely on experience and to transcend it at the same time? This is not only a... more How is it possible to rely on experience and to transcend it at the same time? This is not only a deep and fundamental question for metaphysical argumentation, but also a daily task for human communication, both in ordinary and in scientific language. In this talk, I wish to consider Anton Marty\u2019s semantic theory concerning the Humboldtian notion of inner linguistic form: expressed images are appreciated as auxiliary figurative means working in order to suggest thoughts and to support the enacting of psychic process. In addition, such images differ in different languages, testifying to the creativity of their respective communities and are unable, as yet, to be identified with the proper meanings of the expressions in which they are used. The gap between observable phenomena and their related images on one hand, and the upper psychic activities on the other hand has been studied extensively by the school of experimental psychology, beginning in the same town where Brentano had conceived his Psychology from an Empirical Standpoint: W\ufcrzburg. We will consider two Viennese contributions stemming from this tradition: Karl B\ufchler\u2019s 1934 work, Theory of language concerning inner linguistic form from a \u201csematological\u201d perspective and Karl Popper\u2019s 1928 thesis (supervised by B\ufchler himself): On the Problem of Method in the Psychology of Thought. We will argue the validity of such a theoretical proposal in the present debate
