The structure of 3D model and the reconstruction process are analyzed in order to elaborate and formalize semantic knowledge concerning the work of art, object of study. Some experiences recently carried-out can show the development of some web-based platform able to allow the use of contents properly related to the characteristics of the case study.

In this paper we define a methodological procedure focused on the validation of the 3D reconstructive model. The case study reported, cause of its complexity and overabundance of informations, allows to focus the attention to the level of subjectivity that concern the 3D modelling process trying to find a methodological solution to visualize the uncertainty level of the reconstruction process: the goal is to create an hypothetical virtual reconstruction based on a 3D model scientifically correct in morphological and dimensional terms derived from the integration of 3D recording, historical documentation and renaissance representations. A methodological workflow from data acquisition to the formulation of reliable hypotheses related to the 3D virtual-model of Porta Aurea ables to allow the verification of the assum...

Photogrammetry and Multispectral Imaging for Conservation Documentation – Tools for Heritage Specialists

As cultural heritage has a lot of different aspects and there is often a need of continuous scientific research and preservation to gather valuable information from our history and provide better understanding for future generations. Although there have been numerous projects around the world, over the past four years become combination of several technical analysis very important cultural heritage documentation solution in Estonia. Supporting that development is the wider knowledge and better accessibility of the instrumental studies, imaging and survey technologies. Combination of non-destructive and destructive surveys provides enriched information about heritage artefacts that may considerably help conservation and heritage specialists especially when ...

The case study presented is the expression of a methodology seeking to combine informative and scientific aspects. This method aims to provide an answer to a multidisciplinary approach that characterizes the study of architectural heritage of the past where virtual reconstructions, if scientifically substantiated, can become clear and transmittable documents.

The activity was divided into two distinct phases, the first was concerned with surveying the current state of lighting of the fountain and the adjacent spaces; the second focused on drafting proposals for a new lighting system, based on new LED technologies, of the fountain of Neptune and the areas immediately surrounding which was presented by means of synthetic images derived from the digital reconstruction of the site. This article presents the working method applied and the results achieved.

The framework integrates structured geometrical and documentary information resulting from multiple sources with the aim to enhance the knowledge of those sites within the frame of its historical evolution and its institutional management in a 3D GIS/DB. The developed applications were designed for different types of users, with a largely scalable interface, able to support different output devices and to work at different levels of iconicity. The system allows a full comprehension of the buildings in their own context, permitting to discover unknown relationships, to evaluate their architectural occupancy and to quickly access a complex system of information. The framework has been tested in two different systems - designed and developed to satisfy...

Digital literacy and technology education has gained much relevance in humanities and heritage related disciplines during the recent decades. Against this background, the purpose of this article is to examine the current state of educational programs in digital cultural heritage and related disciplines primarily in Europe with supplemental information from the US. A further aim is to highlight core topics, challenges, and demands, and to show innovative formats and prospects.
