Using the concept of sustainability as a framework for discussion can help us reflect on the phenomenon of food in depth and to discuss how we will shape our food system and nourish ourselves in the future. The aim of the newly developing social science-based research field of food communication is to analyse the discourse of food within society and to rethink the way in which food communication in the professions and research is conceived and realized. This is in order to produce insights that will help society handle the complexity of the issues through self-reflection and to highlight possibilities for applicable communication approaches. Professional organizations Bloggers Lay people Forum Media Communication about food Communication through food Food communication Food communication is usually considered as dietary advice and other targeted communication by consumer protection bodies or health organizations. It is often underestimated that there are many powerful channels of food communication within society, such as print media, social web or corporations dealing with food related questions which can inform the behaviour of individuals, and even the behaviour of institutions. Systemizing the prevailing ways in which food communication is understood in the literature shows that food communication is often viewed as a secondary process in the sense of a sender-receiver model, whereby objective meanings following the Copyright!

But, most of currently available nutrition apps lack scientific evaluation and user acceptance. Objectives The objective of the present study was the systematic design of a theory-driven and target groupadapted dietary mobile app concept to promote healthy eating habits with a focus on drinking habits as well as consumption of fruits and vegetables in adolescents and young adults, especially in deprived life situations. Methods The design process was guided by the behaviour change wheel (BCW). The development process consisted of three stages. In stage 1, the target behavior was specified, and facilitators and barriers were identified. Furthermore, important insights into target group interests, needs and values in the field of nutrition and apps were revealed. To this end, two empirical studies were conducted with the targ...

Communicating Sustainability. Some Thoughts and Recommendations for Enhancing Sustainability Communication

Communication is crucial because, for example, the way Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or the necessity to reduce meat consumption on a global scale are communicated in social settings is at least as important as the scientific content that is being conveyed when people interpret this information or make related decisions. Without adequate communication sustainability will not gain entry into society and people may probably not engage with it. Sustainability communication offers the chance of achieving effective public engagement. This chapter explores some of the complexities that surround sustainability communication. Based on this an understanding of sustainability communication will be introduced which helps clarify some intuitive assumptions about the mechanisms of communication in societal contexts. The chapter closes with a set of recommendations for sustainability communication endeavours.

A variety of different political, methodological, and didactical approaches are intended to form an intricate mosaic of ongoing activities from around the world in the field of higher education. The series aims at stimulating international cooperation and intercultural dialogue on higher education for sustainable development. It is edited by Prof. Dr. Gerd Michelsen, holder of the UNESCO Chair 'Higher Education for Sustainable Development', based at the University of Lüneburg (www.uni-lueneburg.de/infu/chair).

In particular, the paper outlines the context in which papers in a special section on this topic might be understood as well as developing propositions for how a research focus might emerge in this area. The paper, therefore, seeks to contribute to discussions about whether, under which circumstances and how social accountability and engagement processes focusing on sustainable development might trigger, frame and/or promote change processes in HEIs. The papers that compose this special section are also introduced and future research avenues offered.Design/methodology/approach– Literature reviewFindings– Despite a dearth of literature in the area of HEI responsiveness to sustainable development (and leaving side education/learning and research for sustainable development), numerous points of intersection exist. This paper aims to present the progress of the implementation of sustainability in business schools in line with the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and its principles of responsible management education.
Design/methodology/approach
By analyzing the content of the Sharing of Information on Progress reports from PRME signatories, this study identified significant developments in the strategies business school use to implement sustainability. However, it seems that a framework that business schools can apply to accomplish that goal is still lacking. This paper proposes a framework that addresses four components of the integration process and stresses the important role of stakeholders. The authors discuss the results from 2021 in comparison to the results of a previous analysis of the first 100 signatories from 2010 and analyze the findings in relation to the developed framework.
Findings
This study shows that business schools have improved their sustainability engagement in many areas (e.g. education offerings and teaching methods, campus practices and engaging stakeholders). However, less attention has been paid to other aspects, such as reviewing and assessing, capability development or communication, which could slow the transformation process. The authors discuss further implications of the findings for enhancing the PRME signatories’ ability to implement the underrecognized aspects.
Originality/value
While the analysis focuses on the status and progress of the integration of PRME within business schools during the past decade, the framework may enable higher education institutions to analyze their potential to implement change and plan future transformation strategies.

The linkages of digital food communication on social media platforms and analog food behavior of ... more The linkages of digital food communication on social media platforms and analog food behavior of social media users are widely discussed in media and research, but less differentiated. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the research field, the scientific studies are characterized by great heterogeneity in approaching the role of communication and modelling of food behavior, and thus also the conclusions on how digital food communication might be linked to analog food behavior. There is still much uncertainty regarding the relationship and underlying assumptions between digital communication and analog action. The rationale of this scoping review is to systematically summarize the findings of this heterogeneous body of knowledge. The importance and originality of this review are that it focuses explicitly on studies that provide insights into the nexus of digital food communication and analog food behavior, be it in the theoretical foundation, the results, or their interpretation...
