Current status: Since 2002, Full Professor and Chair of Theoretical Philosophy at the Heinrich Heine University of Duesseldorf. Since 2011 Director of the Duesseldorf Center for Logic and Philosophy of Science (DCLPS). Since 2016 President of the GWP (German Society for Philosophy of Science)
Biography: 1980 Mag. rer. nat. in chemistry/physics (Univ. of Graz,. Austria), 1983 PhD in philosophy/sociology (Univ. of Graz,. Austria). 1989 habilitation (University of Salzburg, Austria). 1983-2000 Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Salzburg. Professor for Philosophy of Science in Erfurt (2000-2002). Since 2002 Visiting Professor at the University of California at Irvine (1989, 1996), University of Fribourg (1991), Bochum (1997), Yale Universi-y (1999), Graz (2009, 2011), Vienna (2010).
Research areas: Philosophy of science, logic, epistemology, cognitive science, meta-ethics. Author of 10 books and approx. 200 papers (80 in refereed interna-tional journals). Authored books (among others): The Is-Ought Problem (Kluwer 1997), Einführung in die Wissenschaftstheorie (Wissenschaftliche Buchgesellschaft 2006, 4th edition 2014), Evolution in Natur und Kultur (Spektrum Akademischer Verlag 2011), Philosophy of Science: A Unified Approach (Routledge 2013), Wahrscheinlichkeit (de Gruyter 2015).
