This opiate was conceived by Philo of Tarsus, who was active during the first century of the Common Era. His antidote was written in elegiac couplets. The conservation of these couplets is owed to Galen, who reproduced them in the ninth book of On the Composition of Medicines according to the Places. Most of this Galenic treatise has not been translated into Spanish. For the first time, we offer this prescription in our language from a French version of the fin de siècle. Additionally, we attempt an exegesis of Philo's poem.

The newly appointed imperial physician had been a pupil of Brucke (1819-1892) in Vienna. After the death of the emperor, Basch returned to Europe, where he would study under the guidance of K. Ludwig (1816-1895). Thereafter he invented the sphygmomanometer in Berlin.

In general, this assumption has been interpreted as a historical fact in medical literature. We consulted the same sources and concluded that it is unlikely that Alexander’s arrow wound had given him a pneumothorax. In addition, we stressed the extra-historical content of classical sources. Background: Silas Weir Mitchell (1829–1914) first described erythromelalgia in 1878. Prof. Alarcon-Segovia, who received the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Alumni Award in 1999, had a great interest in erythromelalgia throughout his fruitful academic career. This facet has not been systematically analyzed. Design/Methods: All articles published by Alarcon-Segovia addressing erythromelalgia were reviewed. Content and bibliographic analysis was conducted. Results: Six articles were identified (1963–1993) in MEDLINE/PubMed. Alarcon-Segovia was the first author on four occasions. The first half was done at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota) and the second half at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition (Mexico City). These articles were published in Archives of Internal Medicine (currently JAMA Internal Medicine ) ( n =2), Circulation , The...

Antonio Arauz reports no disclosures relevant to the manuscript. Teresa Corona reports no disclosures relevant to the manuscript. Study funding: No targeted funding reported. Background and significance Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is at present a global pandemic. As COVID-19 cases rise in our different countries, neurologists and neurologists-in-training will be increasingly involved in the care of these patients from both a general medical and neurologic perspective. In the same way, patients with pre-exiting neurologic conditions are in no way exempt from acquiring this infection. On the other hand, new-onset neurologic manifestations have also been recently reported in previously healthy people infected with SARS-CoV-2. 1 This is why it is currently essential for neurologists and neurologists-intraining to be aware of the repercussion that COVID-19 may have in our daily practice. Herman et al recently reported in the journal a scoping review on COVID-19 and neurological practice. 1 This review displayed the current panorama in brief and simple terms. Its concise results are one way to continue caring for these patients in a better-informed way. Syntheses like this one are vital when evidence is rapidly changing, especially during this season when many neurologists are directly treating patients with COVID-19 and they don't have enough time to read all relevant articles coming out every day. Therefore, this

Relatives of HD patients experience a great burden as the latter suffer from altered social conduct and deterioration of interpersonal relationships. Theory of mind (ToM) is the ability to attribute mental states (to oneself and others). Deficits in ToM are thought to have a role in the changes in empathy and interpersonal difficulties that HD patients face. Methods: We conducted a cross sectional study to compare ToM task scores of patients with mild to moderate HD, their relatives (spouse or at-risk first-degree relative with a negative gene test) and controls.Individuals with dementia or depression were excluded. The ToM test battery included Spanish versions of the Reading Mind in the Eyes Test (RMET), Happé's Strange Stories (Social and Physical Stories subtests) and the Hinting Task. Results: The series comprised 12 HD patie...

Treatment changed in 22.4% of EMU and 34.1% of AEEG patients (p-value = 0.10). Conclusion: These data suggest that 24 h AEEG is non-inferior to 24 h EMU evaluation. The lower EEG fee and absence of other hospital costs suggests AEEG is of higher value than EMU for certain nonsurgical indications.

This percentage is higher than expected for their age group in our country. Most of these pregnancy losses occurred years before the diagnosis of NMO. AQP4-IgG can be detected in serum more than 10 years before the NMO onset and can cause miscarriage by binding to placental AQP4, activating complement, and causing inflammatory infiltration.

Both conditions are nowadays unknown to the majority of specialists in clinical neurology, and we therefore conducted an historical review of these conditions.

In 1960, she published a short story, entitled "El médico encantador" (The Charming Physician), in the renowned literary magazine Sur. The central character of this piece is a family doctor named Albino Morgan, who had a secret truth: in any house he visited, all variety of disease also entered. He brought with him the viruses he disseminated. The narrator of this short story-one of his patients-describes four of Morgan's diseases. These imaginary neurological conditions allowed Ocampo to explore improbable situations in everyday life.
