Airports are asset-intensive businesses that require a large amount of time to recover the signif... more Airports are asset-intensive businesses that require a large amount of time to recover the significant financial investments in specific infrastructure such as runways and terminals. Airports investors must perform strategic moves based on calculated risks before taking investment decisions. This communication puts forward a new approach for airport investment risk assessment. The approach takes explicitly into account the degree of uncertainty in activity levels prediction and proposes milestones for the different stages of the project for minimizing risk. Uncertainty is represented through fuzzy dual theory and risk management is performed using dynamic programming.

In this communication the ground handling fleet management problem at airports is considered with... more In this communication the ground handling fleet management problem at airports is considered with the aim of improving aircraft service at arrival and departure while the operational cost of the ground service fleets is taken into account. The complexity of the considered problem, as well as, operational considerations lead to propose an on-line decentralized management structure where the criticality of each aircraft demand for service is evaluated using a fuzzy formalism. Then after detailing the proposed collaborative scheme between ground handling fleet managers, airlines and airport authorities, a heuristic approach is proposed to solve each fleet assignment problem. A case study considering a large airport is discussed.

The classical entropy maximization approach for trip distribution prediction in transportation networks is reviewed and a new formulation is proposed using the fuzzy dual formalism. This leads to the consideration of a new mathematical programming problem involving the primal and dual parts of the trip distribution probabilities. The complexity of this problem is analyzed and a solution method is proposed. The new approach for trip distribution prediction is illustrated in the case of a small size transportation network and finally its main interests and difficulties are discussed.

A solução em muitos casos foi o ensino remoto para manter a regularidade do ensino. O Instituto Alberto Luiz Coimbra de Pós-Graduação e Investigação em Engenharia (COPPE) da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) foi uma das instituições que adotou essa medida. O Instituto acreditava que os estudantes preferiam estar a salvo de epidemias, uma vez que o seu equilíbrio emocional seria preservado enquanto prosseguiam os seus estudos. Analisando este cenário, foi possível avaliar a qualidade do ensino remoto e como essa mudança afetou os estudantes na dimensão intelectual. Then, it becomes important for organization to seek the preservation these knowledge. For a successful implementation of Knowledge Management (KM), it is important to identify the barriers or critical factors that affect the success of the KM process. From the perspective of the nuclear organizations, no systematic framework exists on characterizing a set of critical success factors (CSFs) for implementing KM. A energia solar fotovoltaica está se tornando uma alternativa viável e não poluente para a geraçã... more A energia solar fotovoltaica está se tornando uma alternativa viável e não poluente para a geração de energia mediante o uso de combustíveis fósseis. Com isso, este estudo tem como objetivo descobrir as melhores localizações para a instalação de uma usina solar fotovoltaica no estado do Rio de Janeiro, no Brasil, através de critérios ambientais, técnicos e econômicos utilizando o modelo COPPE-Cosenza e um SIG (Sistema de Informações Geográficas). Os resultados mostram que o estado do Rio de Janeiro tem um elevado potencial para a geração de energia solar fotovoltaica, em especial no litoral norte.

In this paper, after discussing the issue of modeling airport freight terminals, a macroscopic fr... more In this paper, after discussing the issue of modeling airport freight terminals, a macroscopic freight terminal simulator, the MACS (MAcroscopic Cargo Simulator) tool, is presented. The OPAL (Optimization Platform for Airports, including Land-side) [OPAL] research and development project identified the absence of an adequate tool for airport freight terminal modeling and simulation. So, within this project the tool MACS has been designed and implemented as a multi-agent simulation tool for airport freight terminal representation, analysis and simulation. The aim of this tool is to model, analyze and simulate at a macroscopic level the entire freight terminal activity of a given airport. A MACS version is presently integrated into the OPAL platform together with other tools in order to obtain a full simulation platform able to represent all the traffic activities of an airport (total airport simulation and analysis).
