The collection of essays presented in Clothing the Pacific provides a four-part panoramic textual history of Pacific Islands, from early contacts with foreign traders, settlers and missionaries through to the present day (‘Clothing the Body’, ‘Clothing and the Appropriation of Christianity’, ‘Clothing and Agency’, ‘Clothing in Diaspora’). The authors, who have contributed to a three-year project funded by the Economic and Social Sciences Research Council (UK), have collectively conceptualised clothing and cloth as a means for visualising the impact of European settlement and missionary activity on Pacific peoples and, conversely, for the understanding of the way in which these peoples have negotiated and interpreted their own cultures and traditions in the face of colonialism and post-colonialism.

In January 2015, World Vision Australia commissioned a study to investigate the gendered impacts of a successful economic development project, the Local Value Chain Development (LVCD). The LCVD project was implemented by World Vision Indonesia with support from World Vision Australia, in the Flores-Timor Province of Eastern Indonesia 2009-2012. This research offered insights into the gender dynamics of the East Flores communities in which the LVCD pilot project was implemented and sought to understand how the LVCD project itself may have influenced these gender dynamics or created opportunities for change to gender relations.

A new collective predicament demands a new way of observing reality. If the world changes, we need to develop new ways of looking at it. We should adapt our vision to the changing socio-political reality in order to observe it better, and also because this understanding is in turn essential to change the world (this was Marx’s “thesis 11”). Eve Darian-Smith and Philip McCarty argue that the “global” is now inevitable, that it now fundamentally shapes relationships and production, and that we should acquire strategies for systematically pursuing its observation.

of Technology This paper explores the emergence of one of Australia's first youth fashion brands, beginning with the development of its original flagship store and its advertising in Melbourne newspapers in the 1960s. This analysis is in terms of how the brand was inserted within the national culture with regard to the social roles presented to young women and the broader social and economic changes of the period. It explores the way the Sportsgirl brand participated in constructing for young Australian women, their increasing identification as independent, adventurous and in charge of their own sexuality. In doing so, it seeks to draw attention to the ways in which the changing aspirations and values of young women were first incorporated by the proliferating post-war consumer culture.

It is widely known that prior to embarking on a successful international career as a sculptor, Clement Meadmore was an influential Australian designer of furniture and of the interior of the groundbreaking modernist Legend Espresso and Milk Bar in Melbourne in 1955. With its black metal and fibreglass furniture, semi-abstract murals by artist Leonard French and its brilliant colour scheme, the Legend was Melbourne’s most remarkable cafe interior at the time when the city was gearing up to host the Olympic Games and doing its best to live up to the image of a progressive and cosmopolitan city. What appears to have been overlooked is that Meadmore designed a second cafe and milk bar called the Teahouse for Ion Nicolades, the same client who had commissioned the Legend. In its short life the relatively simple interior of the Teahouse embodied a complex mix of competing narratives. Do-it-Yourself activity made a substantial contribution to Australia in the years following World War II. Facing a severe housing shortage, an unprecedented number of Australians equipped with diverse skills obtained during the war and encouraged by house size restrictions, undertook the DIY construction, fitting out and furnishing of their homes. Over 30 per cent of homes that were built during the 1950s were DIY projects. DIY helped Australians minimize household debt, increased social mobility and benefitted the national economy.

Philippe's research-led teaching and research explore the architecture of performance where the relationship between body and space is being examined. A specific attention on the atmospheric conditions of space is given and the effect of these on the sensory are considered in order to defining Interior Architecture. Architecture of theatre (traditional place of body performance), death, haunting, trauma and the magic will be favoured as domains of exploration. Some previous research works have developed to become intimate and principally sensory-based; predominantly crossing over visual, performing and fine arts. The eastern spruce gall adelgid, Adelges abietis (Linneaus 1758) (Hemiptera: Adelgidae) is an invasive pest of spruce trees, Picea (Pinaceae), that was introduced to North America from Europe prior to the 20 th century (Drooz 1985). The preferred host of A. abietis is Norway spruce, P. abies (Linneaus) H. Karst, but the insect also infests white (P. glauca (Moench) Voss), red (P. rubens Sargent) and blue spruces (P. pungens Engelmann). The adelgid is established in eastern North America (southeastern Canada and the northeastern United States down to Tennessee), the Great Lakes region (Drooz 1985), four western states (South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Alaska) (http://www.fs.fed.us/nrs/tools/afpe/maps/ESGA.pdf, accessed 25 October 2012) and three western provinces (British Columbia, Alberta and Yukon) (http://www.exoticpests.gc.ca/static/images/maps/Adelges_abietis_eng. gif, accessed 19 June 2012). There is anecdotal evidence of the adelgid from Washington State, however the above-referenced USDA-Forest Service resource does not list the insect occurring in the state of Washington. The established populations of A. abietis that are closest to Idaho occur in western Montana (Lincoln County) and southern British Columbia. This report represents a new state record of A. abietis in Idaho and documents occurrence of the species in the state of Washington by including information for specimens collected in the eastern portion of the state. Galls on Norway spruce were collected from two locations: 1) in November 2011 from the Finch Arboretum (Corey Glen area) in Spokane, Spokane County, WA, approximately 40 km west of the Idaho border (specimens were given to T. Kohlhauff, Spokane County Cooperative Extension, by C. Deffe, Spokane Community College) and 2) in March and May, 2012 from the University of Idaho campus in Moscow, Latah County, ID. Galls from both locations had the characteristic pineapple shape and were the size (1.5 to 2.0 cm long) and location (near the base of the current year's needles) to suggest that they had been caused by an infestation of A. abietis. First instar nymphs from Washington and alate adults from Idaho were confirmed to be A. abietis using morphological characteristics (Blackman & Eastop 1994). Voucher specimens have been placed in the William Barr Insect Museum a the University of Idaho (Moscow, ID). Nymphs that had settled at the base of buds (Washington) and from inside galls (Idaho) were confirmed to be A. abietis using DNA barcode sequences generated with standard protocols (Foottit et al. 2009). The DNA barcode sequences in the COI barcode region were identical and matched exactly the sequences in GenBank deposited by Foottit et al. (2009), accession numbers FJ502356 through FJ502372. DNA sequences from several Idaho specimens were deposited in GenBank under accession numbers JX657684 through JX657687. Species identification of gall-forming adelgids can also be facilitated by using the gall's shape, size and position on the twig. In contrast to the pineapple-shaped galls produced by A. abietis, the galls formed by the native Cooley spruce gall adelgid,

Industrial philanthropist Edward Akroyd created the Yorkshire Penny Savings Bank in 1859. Despite competition from the Post Office Savings Bank after 1861 and a serious reserve problem in 1911, it sustained his overall strategy to become a successful regional bank. Using archival and contemporary sources to build on recent scholarship illustrating how savings banks were integrated into local economies and the complementary roles of philanthropy and paternalism, we analyse an English regional bank's strategy, including an assessment of strategic innovation, ownership changes, and management structure. This will demonstrate that the founder's vision continued, even though the 1911 crisis radically altered both strategy and structure.
