Dr. Wilter C. Friales is full-time professor II of Notre Dame of Marbel University in the City of Koronadal, South Cotabato, Philippines. He is teaching both in the Graduate School and Undergraduate programs of the university handling Methods of Research (with specialization in Qualitative Research), Pedagogy and Professional Education, Language and Literature subjects.
He is a Flexible Learning Tutor of GURO 21 Course 1 (Facilitating the Development of the 21st Century Skills for Southeast Asian Teachers). A program delivered by Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and the Regional Center for Educational Innovation and Technology from 2017 tom present. He is an Evaluator being a member of the Regional Quality Assurance Team (RQAT) evaluating the Education Programs of various HEI’s in Region 12, Philippines. He is a trainer and resource person in various trainings for Research in the regional and national level. He has presented and published several institutional, government agencies commissioned-based qualitative researches in the international, peer reviewed and multidisciplinary journals. He has already been awarded as Best Oral Research Presenter for his research papers presented in an international conference.

It describes how researchers analyzed the generated themes of in view of the different levels of analysis as descriptive, analytical categorical and other emerging approaches drawn from their actual works. This study utilized qualitative research textual analysis as design. Attempts to do analytical level of theming are also evident as transpired in some sample themes analyzed. The limitations and issues on these attempts were captured and pointed out as part of the essential discussions of the analysis in this paper.

Related Learning Experience (RLE) provides opportunity for medical technology students and intern... more Related Learning Experience (RLE) provides opportunity for medical technology students and interns to practice what has been learned in the classroom obtained from laboratory classes in schools, clinical laboratories and hospitals designed to advance the diagnostic competencies of students in the performance of clinical laboratory procedures. This study aimed to describe the remote delivery of the Related Learning Experiences (RLE) during the COVID19 pandemic for Medical Technology as experienced by both the teachers and students in the 3 identified Higher Education Institutions. This study utilized Qualitative Case Study Design-Multiple case embedded approach. The participants of the study were the medical technology teachers handling RLE subjects and medical technology students from the three Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) who were enrolled in Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology program. The findings revealed that both teachers and students prepare for their remote teaching and learning in RLE, and apply various strategies to teach and learn. Teachers' give assessments to students through computer software-aided assessments such as quizzes and exams, there are also online submissions required like recorded and live return demonstrations. Challenges were identified by teachers and students and coping strategies were also employed. Based on the findings, cases of teachers and students attending to remote delivery of RLE are affected with schools' sufficiency or adequacy in instructional facilities like the laboratory, learning management system and laboratory manuals. Clarity of guidelines and timely feed backing can significantly and positively affect the institution's teaching process in the remote delivery. It can be also noted that medical technology learner's performance and attitude towards learning is relatively better compared with in-person approach. As shared, they also exert effort and somehow are motivated to learn and take part on their self-learning paces because they can see their teachers' effort in teaching.

This study on the teaching in the Marist schools is a descriptive qualitative design aimed to exp... more This study on the teaching in the Marist schools is a descriptive qualitative design aimed to explore the lived-experiences of teachers in the Marist schools in the context of the Marist Pedagogy. It highlights the significant experiences of seven (7) educators who have been teaching in the Marist institute for years. The primary data collection method was in-depth interviews. The data were coded and analyzed according to the research questions. The discussion and analysis of the data are presented in four parts. The first part describes the understanding of the Marist Pedagogy through the meaning manifestation and beliefs of the teachers about Marist way of teaching. The next part explained the teaching practices in the Marist Schools in terms of instructional delivery and classroom management. The attitudes of teachers towards their students, colleagues, and teaching in general had been discussed in the third part. Lastly, the challenges that the teachers had experienced in their teaching was highlighted in another part. The data from the in-depth interview which was analyzed though the process of thematic coding and categorization of the transcript revealed three (3) emergent themes that describe the Marist way of teaching based on the perspective of the Marist educators. These emergent themes are affirmations of the distinct practices of the teachers in the Marist schools. The study revealed that while teaching in the Marist schools is towards transcendental learning, it is also a pastoral responsibility and a shared mission.

Specifically, it aimed at assessing campus advising on the areas of supervision, involvement, management, relationship and work attitude towards moderating the student organizations. This study utilized descriptive design. A survey was conducted to 320 student officers and members from the 35 student organizations. A tool used in the survey contains the indicators on the five areas. It was developed by the researchers and checked by the experts. As a result, the moderators have shown good performance in the 5 areas as assessed by respondents. Time constraints, lack of coordination, lack of communication and the attitude of the officers and members were the issues emerged from the interviews with the advisers. A Moderators Development Program was designed to the improve campus advising.

This study aims to establish a theory that explains how advising or moderating students in campus organizations is being done. This study utilized the Qualitative Grounded Theory approach using an in-depth interview with the seven participants, of which three are campus advisers, and four are student leaders. The interviews were transcribed, coded, and initial analysis was done to identify initial categories. The analysis of this research study consists of three phases- open, axial, and selective coding. Ethnomethodological Inquiry on Keeping Students' Community in the Campus Organizations Amidst the Virtually-Facilitated Interactions

The transition on the delivery of education from face to face to virtual impacts the operations of the student organizations in school in so many ways. This study aims to explore virtually-facilitated interactions of students on keeping their sense of community within the campus organizations as experienced by the student leaders and members. Using an ethnomethodological approach in research, this study focuses on describing the strategies employed by the participants in keeping their sense of community amidst the virtual interactions. The study uses in-depth interview to generate the categories of strategies. In transitioning to remote interactions, students utilize available online platforms as fundamental utilities for their online interactions. Keeping their sense of community includes Social Connectedness; Setting guidelines and routines to be observed but not to be imposed; Reaching out for updates; Giving feedback to inspire openness and Allotting moments to relate and recreate. The study provides better understanding on the dynamics of students' interactions in the virtual space in keeping their connections and fellowship. The institutions need to ensure support, guidance, motivation and empowerment on students' affairs both online and offline in order to upkeep their drives on making a difference through their advocacies and initiatives.

This study aimed to describe the experiences of beginner researchers on learning Qualitative Research. Specifically, on the questions: How they find learning Qualitative Research for the first time; their learning strategies; teachers mentoring styles as experienced by them; Learners’ collaboration and leadership; their challenges and the implications to the teaching and learning process. This study utilized Descriptive Qualitative Research as a research design. There were two sets of focused group discussions conducted one group with eight participants and the other group with six participants during the actual interview. 'Beginner researchers’ view Qualitative Research as a rigorous process that requires good communication and social skill; a difficult subject; provides new knowledge and experiences; and interesting subject. Repetitive teaching and the prompt feedback mechanisms on students’ output were teacher’s mentoring strategies while learning together as co-learners; Learners’ collaboration; and delegation of tasks were the identified concepts on learners learning strategies. The term partnership is being viewed in the context that the lay people are not just simply worke... more The term partnership is being viewed in the context that the lay people are not just simply workers or employees of the Brothers in schools but they are partners in fulfilling the mission on education. This Phenomenological Study of the Marist-lay partnership explored the livedexperiences of both the Marist lay and Marist Brothers in the context of partnership for the mission of the Marist. It is a phenomenological qualitative design of research aimed to explore the livedexperiences of both the Marist Brothers and the Lay in the context of partnership. It utilized Spradley's (1997) Developmental Research Sequence Methodology (DRSM) framework for the data collection and the methods prescribed by Moustaka (1994) which is also derived from the modification of the method of data analysis of Stevick (1971), Colaizzi (1973), and Keen (1975). The first part of the study explored the lived-experiences of the Marist Brothers and lay while they work with the Marist mission. It presented their vocation stories, challenges encountered, and attitudes towards work, working relationship and the impact of such partnership in their lives. The second part of the study revealed the different meanings and the themes drawn in understanding the concept of Marist-lay partnership as perceived by the Marist Brothers and the lay in working for the Marist mission. The emergent themes were extracted after the thorough process of thematic coding, analysis and categorization of the transcripts from the in-depth interview of the researcher to the identified participants of the study. Based on the result of the exploration, it was drawn out that collaboration appeared to be very important to be established in the Marist community. As one of the emerging themes, collaboration between brothers and lay leads to good relationship that eventually results in good partnership. Thus, there is a need for a continuous nurturing process and redefining the roles and functions of the lay in the mission.

As a result, categories and sub-categories had emerged from narratives of experiences of the Frontliners. Becoming resilient and selfless are two larger categories that transpired after all the categories and sub-categories were combined. Resilience and selflessness emerged as important attributes manifested by the Frontliners in doing service despite the pandemic threats.
