This video was shot by Andrey Matusovskiy during a stay among the indigena wauja (Brazil, Mato Grosso, Xingu indigenous park, Piyulaga, november 2013). 3 views

Residents of the nearby multi-ethnic community, where taiwano, cabiyari and tatuyo live together but taiwano predominate, consider the cave in Cerro Aci to be the first maloka – a communal dwelling, the home of the Master of animals, one of the key characters in the traditional religion of the autochthonous population of the Vaupes region. Research interest in this object of ancient rock art is due to the lack of scientific information about it. I record the location of rock paintings in the interior of the sacred
cave, describe them, analyze the interpretation of the symbolism of rock paintings proposed by taiwano informants, and evaluate the possibility of determining the ethnic identification of this object. I further compare the pictorial motifs of the sacred cave in Cerro Aci and another nearby rock art monument, Cerro Morocco. Special attention is paid to changes in the attitude of indigenous peoples of the region toward giving the strangers access to sacred places, such as the dwelling of the Master of animals in
Cerro Aci.

The Last Maloca: Transformation of the Communal Dwelling’s Sociocultural Role among the Matsés of Peru
Etnograficheskoe obozrenie, 2019

In the following decades, the tradition of constructing maloca among the Matsés was almost completely lost. Today, most Peruvian Matsés are concentrated in villages with a scattered layout and live in huts designed to house individual families. In the collective memory of Matsés, a special attitude is still maintained towards the maloca as a construction type and space that marks their ethnic and cultural identity. However, to what extent do these ideas correspond to the previous perceptions of communal housing in the society of Matsés? In Peru, there remains only one group of Matsés continuing to live in maloca. Why did these people make such a choice, preferring maloca to modern types of settlements? The article analyzes the dynamics of the internal and external social and cultural relations of this group, which helps us trace the transformation of the sociocultural role of the communal dwelling among the Peruvian Matsés.

Yurupari is the seasonal ritual. In the annual cycle of the indigenous groups in which it exists, the yurupari is linked to the maturation of certain types of fruits or fruits of peach palm (Guilielma speciosa Mart). Yucuna, who live in the southern limit of the area of the propagation of the Vaupés culture, have their own characteristic ritual, which they call the dance of dolls. Yucuna informants say that the doll dance is a rite of yurupari. Why do the Yucuna seek to designate the dance of dolls as the yurupari? Why do they need it and why is it important for them? The anthropologist still has many questions to consider. The article is based on an analysis of the field materials received by the speaker during a visit to barasana in 2014 and Yucuna in 2015, living in the Colombian Amazonia.
