This study is designed to assist the local church to identify how to proactively minister to special needs families. The research question is: “Can a congregation help increase the sense of belonging of the special needs families among its constituency through an intentional process that integrates appreciative inquiry, small group support, the identification of ministry gifts, and ministry involvement.” Using qualitative measures through appreciative inquiry, the research conducted compiled valuable information that proves to be useful for the local church. The purpose of the information gathered is to see whether or not the local biblical community promotes and serves through an atmosphere of inclusion for special needs families. This research is designed in such a way to facilitate biblical communities to reach the point of inclusion if said community is currently exclusive. The same material can be used with already inclusive communities to build upon what they already possess. The purpose of gathering personal stories stems from the need for communal awareness. Communal awareness promotes a healthy biblical community and allows everyone in said community to participate in relationships. This information will be helpful to senior pastoral staff to assist implementing appropriate ministries to meet the needs of special needs families, along with appropriate training for staff and volunteers.
