These natural fibres have lot of advantages over synthetic fibres. In this paper two natural fibers palm and coir reinforced composites were fabricated using compression moulding method which was a new effort and was not done elsewhere. Specimens were cut from the fabricated composite plates according to the ASTM standards. Universal Testing Machine was used for testing tensile and flexural strength of the composites. The impact strength of the composites was analyzed using Impact tester. Further wear and moisture absorption tests were also conducted on the prepared specimen. The results obtained through experimentation of both composites were compared and presented. It can be concluded that the developed palm based composite possess superior property and can be recommended for fabrication of light weight high strength automobile parts.

The natural fibers were found to posses better properties when compared to other materials. Mostly unidirectional fibers were used in the recent past. These unidirectional fibers were replaced by bidirectional natural fibers. These bidirectional fibers tend to posses better mechanical properties when compared to unidirectional fibers. This literature paper explores the history of different natural fibers woven in bidirectional with applications. This paper focuses the anatomical segmentation of various properties of bidirectional natural fibers (jute, hemp, bamboo and sisal) and its applications to substitute glass fiber.

Aluminium 7075 was selected as matrix and reinforced with harder TiC to improve the mechanical strength and softer MoS2 to enhance the resistance to wear. The prepared samples were tested for their hardness, microstructure, XRD analysis, tensile strength through acoustic emission and wear surface roughness behaviour. All prepared composites exhibited an improvement in hardness; tensile strength and wear resistance through acoustic emission were investigated. It was observed that reinforcement was uniformly distributed across the matrix material which was attributed through continuous stirring. The surface morphology analysed through micro structural analysis revealed that the reinforcement was uniformly distributed in the matrix. The wear resistance was significantly improved with the MoS2 addition which acted as a lubricant in-between the sliding surfaces. Thus it is concluded that the hybrid composites exhibits good tensile strength, hardness and wear resistance properties. An Acoustic emission system was employed in all the tests to monitor the acoustic energy release during the whole deformation process and some useful conclusions were drawn.

The quality of weld is a very important working aspect for the manufacturing and construction industries. Because of high quality and reliability, submerged arc welding (SAW) is one of the chief metal joining processes employed in industry. Quality of weld mainly depends on the mechanical properties of the weld, which in turn relays on the interaction of the weld parameters. This paper discusses the multi-response optimisation of weld parameters using grey-based Taguchi method. Experiments are conducted using Taguchi's L 9 orthogonal array. The weld parameters are welding current, welding speed and arc voltage with bead hardness and material deposition rate as responses. Taguchi's signalto-noise (S/N) ratio is computed based on their performance characteristics. Grey relation grade is obtained using S/N ratio values of responses. Based on grey relational grade, optimum levels of parameters have been identified. The significant contributions are estimated using analysis of variance. Confirmation test is conducted to validate the proposed method. This evaluation procedure can be used in decision-making to select process parameters for a welding operator. The proposed and developed method has good accuracy and competency enhancing automation and robotisation.

To make decision making process (selection of machining parameters) online, effective and efficient artificial intelligent tools like neural networks are being attempted. This paper proposes the development of neural network models for prediction of machining parameters in CNC turning process. Experiments are designed based on Taguchi's Design of Experiments (DoE) and conducted with cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut and nose radius as the process parameters and surface roughness and power consumption as objectives. Results from experiments are used to train the developed neuro based hybrid models. Among the developed models, performance of neural network model trained with particle swarm optimization model is superior in terms of computational speed and accuracy. Developed models are validated and reported. Signal-to-noise (S/N) ratios of responses are calculated to identify the influences of process parameters using analysis of variance (ANOVA) analysis. The developed model can be used in automotive industries for deciding the machining parameters to attain quality with minimum power consumption and hence maximum productivity.

Localized heating during welding, followed by rapid cooling, induce residual stresses in the weld and in the base metal. Determination of magnitude and distribution of welding residual stresses is essential and important. Data sets from finite element method (FEM) model are used to train the developed neural network model trained with genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization (NN-GA-PSO model). Among the three types of manufacturing process via, metal forming process, metal joining process and metal removing process, drilling is one of the major metal removing operations widely used in all fabrication industries. They employ conventional drilling machines to serve the purpose. If conventional drilling machines are used as such many holes cannot be drilled simultaneously at a time. To overcome this difficult and to reduce the operation time of drilling, additionally multiple drill bit is modeled is designed, fabricated and is attached to the ordinary conventional drilling machine. A case study is done to validate the fabricated assembly in this work. Pro- E software is also employed to model the multiple drill bit assembly. It is found that this method is found to be cost effective and consumes less time, than the traditional procedure.

But natural fibres suffer from lower strength which can be overcome through hybridisation with stronger synthetic fibres like carbon or glass. This work explores the potential reinforcement of fibres from palm leaf stalks for fabricating polymer composites. The fibres were pre-treated with glass fibres to form as fibre mats and hybridised with glass fibres prior to reinforcement. These mats were reinforced in the polyester resin matrix as different layers to form a hybrid composite. Experiments were done by varying the length of fibre, fibre volume and with different treatments using response surface methodology. Tensile strength was measured as response. The tensile strength was spotted maximum in 8% potassium permanganate (KMnO4) treated palm fibres with optimum fibre length 40 mm and volume fraction of 20%. The surface study on these composites through scanning electron microscope (SEM) examination was satisfactory. Hence this specimen combination was best suited and recommended to manufacture components like car bonnets, bumpers, etc.

This is an important and efficient alloy material for the power plants of next generation [1]. These alloys can be used in sea water, power plant applications with temperature ranges up to 900ºC. The combination of resistance and the improved mechanical property makes this alloy useful in case of various applications, such as exposure of long-term and higher temperatures in corrosive area. High temperature tubes of heat exchanger in gascooled nuclear reactors and super heater tubes are the other applications of Inconel 718 alloy [2]. In addition, EBW process is a metal fabrication technique in the presence of multi-factors and multi-objectives. *Author for correspondence This connection of normal metals, like aluminium, steel, and magnesium of 1mm to 6mm thickness in almost all positions can be done using this process [3]. The weld joint quality highly depends on the parameters of the input process and the control of this input process parameter acts as a basic problem to the manufacturer in obtaining increased weld quality in welded joint [4]. Highly skilled engineers or operators select the parameters depending on trial and error method in order to produce a welded joint with necessary indications, but the selection of parameters using this method was time consuming [5]. The welds are utilized to find, whether they are suitable to meet the all the required specification [6]. Many researchers have studied the effect of mechanical properties of Inconel-718 alloy material and few authors published about fabrication, solidification and characterization of these alloys. It is understood that there is lack of papers on the effect of electron beam welding parameters and with their responses of bead width and depth of penetration with quality optimization.
