This study explores the integration of wind power generation into urban infrastructure via a roof... more This study explores the integration of wind power generation into urban infrastructure via a rooftop vertical-axis wind turbine. A rigorous experimental framework was established by installing a small-scale turbine on an urban building for performance assessment under controlled conditions. Simulated environmental conditions were created using a pedestal fan and blower to evaluate mechanical interactions between the components and electrical output efficiency of the turbine. Extensive numerical modeling was conducted to analyze turbine performance, by computational fluid dynamics using ANSYS FLUENT. The results reveal that the turbine operates efficiently even at low to moderate wind speeds (0.5-6 m/s), demonstrating its feasibility for urban deployment. Performance tests indicated that, as the shaft rotational speed increased from 55 rpm to 115 rpm, the output voltage, current and power varied nonlinearly in the ranges of 3-11.9 V, 20-130 mA and 0.05-2.7 W, respectively. Vibration measurement at specified turbine locations revealed nonlinear variation in displacement, velocity, acceleration and frequency without fixed patterns. Good agreement was observed between the experimental and numerical results. The numerical model yielded interesting profiles related to velocity and turbulence distributions, apart from torque, mechanical power and electrical voltage. Important conclusions were drawn from the entire work.

The square enclosure has an adiabatic top and bottom wall with side walls being administered at consistent temperature with different values. The mathematical equations of this present research have been solved by applying a finite element strategy. A broad in content parametric research investigation is executed to assess the confrontation of Rayleigh number (Ra) along with radiation criterion (Rd) on the fluid-transport eventuation. The numerical simulations demonstrate that Nusselt number (Nu) is an augmenting function of Ra and Rd. Consequential changes in streamlines along with isothermal contours for high Ra are realized. The present numerical investigations are applicable to solar collecting design devices, fire modelling in compartment, etc.

Amongst various sources of renewable energy, the kinetic energy of blowing wind has environmental... more Amongst various sources of renewable energy, the kinetic energy of blowing wind has environmental friendliness and easy availability, together with other benefits. The wind energy is converted into usable electrical energy by means of a robust device termed a wind turbine. To carry out a performance study of such a device, a small-scale model vertical-axis wind turbine was installed at the laboratory and was run by artificial wind energy produced by a pedestal fan for low and medium speeds and a blower for higher speeds. The variation in critical parameters such as output power and voltage with different speeds was studied. The average output power and voltage were observed to increase with average shaft speed with linear and curvilinear patterns, respectively. This geometry and the following results can be used for analysis in heat management of building architecture, solar collection devices, having walls with surface roughness. The design/methodology/approach of these numerical solutions is the finite element analysis by a commercial software COMSOL Multiphysics version 5.6. The choice of consideration of sinusoidal heating gives a better analysis of heat transfer analysis in this square geometry with wavy wall and with adiabatic block inside has not been investigated by numerical or experimental basis before and therefore, it is this motivation that results in this numerical investigation.

The present work analyses magnetohydrodynamic natural convection heat transfer and entropy genera... more The present work analyses magnetohydrodynamic natural convection heat transfer and entropy generation in rhombic enclosures filled with Cu-water nanofluids. Numerical simulations were executed for varying Rayleigh number (Ra) in the range 10 3-10 6 , Hartmann number (Ha) in the range 0-100 and inclination angles of the enclosure (30°, 45°and 60°) considering three different volume fractions of the nanofluid (1%, 3% and 5%). The results indicate that at low Ra, the heat transfer rate remains invariant with the variation in Ha. At high Ra (!10 5), the presence of the magnetic field is more perceptible implying that the reduction in heat transfer rate with the increase in magnetic field intensity is far more significant. The heat transfer rate enhances with the increase in inclination angle for all Ha for Ra =10 3 and 10 4. However, at high Ra (=10 5 and 10 6) the trend becomes contrasting due to the interplay of buoyancy and Lorentz forces. There exists an operating range of Ha in the convection regime wherein the efficacy of the nanofluid in augmenting the heat transfer rate is negated when compared to the corresponding performance of the base fluid. The concomitant thermal identity resulting due to the combined interactions of Hartmann number and volume fraction of the nanofluid have been presented. The entropy generation rate decreases with the increase in Ha for all values of Ra and inclination angles of the enclosure.

This approach provides the key insights on how the available energy (exergy) is being destroyed during the process and the ways to minimize its destruction. In this study, EGM approach is implemented for the analysis of optimal thermal mixing and temperature uniformity due to natural convection in quadrantal cavity filled with porous medium for the material processing applications or for cooling of electrical equipments. Effect of the permeability of the porous medium and the role of non-uniform heating in enhancing the thermal mixing, temperature effects and minimization of entropy generation is analyzed. The numerical solutions are obtained using finite element method. Stream lines , Isotherms and Entropy generation results are depicted for Ra=10 6 , 1.7x10 5 , 10 4 and for Da=10-3 , 10-4 and 10-5 at Pr=0.71.It is found that at lower Darcy number (Da), the thermal mixing is low and the heat transfer irreversibility dominates the total entropy generation. In contrast, thermal mixing is improved due to enhanced convection at higher Da. It is observed that fluid friction irreversibility dominates over heat transfer irreversibility for only Da=10-3 at Ra=10 6. The local entropy generation is maximum at the bottom wall, while at the center and top of the enclosure it becomes minimum. Based on EGM analysis, it is established that total entropy production is not significant with larger thermal mixing at high Darcy number, and can be recommended for material processing process or for cooling of electrical equipments.

The inclination angle of rectotrapezoidal enclosure, region  is chosen as 60º .The left and right vertical walls of the enclosure are maintained at a local cold temperature Tc (heat sink) while the bottom wall is kept at a high temperature of Th, respectively. The top wall of the enclosure is adiabatic. After non-dimensionalising the necessary governing controlling equations, the finite element strategy is adopted for solving the same. We present here the results in form of stream line contour, isotherm contours, local and average heat transfer rate () adopting a specific gamut of Rayleigh numbers i.e 10 3 Ra10 6. The solid volume fraction range of Cu-water nanoparticles adopted for the present study is (0  φ  0.1). The Prandtl number of the numerical simulation is maintained at 6.2.From the results it is observed that the higher stream line intensity is reported at a higher Rayleigh number for higher values of φ and also it is found that with an increase of solid volume fraction φ, of copper water nanoparticles, average heat transfer rate (Nu) enhancement occurs. Accordingly, heat transfer enhancement greater than 20% as observed for higher Ra =10 6 , whereas 30% heat transfer enhancements are reported using Cu-water nanofluid with Ra=10 3 .

A COMPUTATIONAL STUDY OF A MULTI SOLID WALL HEAT CONDUCTION MADE UP OF FOUR DIFFERENT BUILDING CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS SUBJECTED TO VARIOUS THERMAL BOUNDARY CONDITIONS

Heat transfer by conduction (also known as diffusion heat transfer) is the flow of thermal energy... more Heat transfer by conduction (also known as diffusion heat transfer) is the flow of thermal energy within solids and non-flowing fluids, driven by thermal non-equilibrium (i.e. the effect of a non-uniform temperature field), commonly measured as a heat flux (vector), i.e. the heat flow per unit time (and usually unit normal area) at a control surface. Consider a square building wall which is made up of four different materials (refer Fig. 1). The wall is subjected to a hot temperature of 1000C (initial-condition) and is then subjected to various thermal boundary conditions and volumetric heat generation; as shown in a table below. By Computational Fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis i.e.Finite volume analysis for this state of Conduction ,we study the steady state temperature contours for the four different cases. We also analyse the heat transfer (positive for outward/heat-loss and negative for inward/heat-gain) from the different segments of the wall , total heat-gain, total heat-loss and energy balance; for the different cases. Finally we discuss the effect of volumetric heat generation on the results for the types [case C & D] of BCs and try to optimize our result
