By using a simple random sampling method, 100 pupils were selected as the case group and another 110 pupils were selected as control. According to the above model, both groups were involved in this study for a period of one year. All the samples were considered with regard to factors influencing intestinal parasite infection such as the predisposing, ...

A decline step in activity levels occurs in adolescence. The present study is designed to test: 1) determining the distribution of adolescents on every single one of the stages of change model; 2) determining differences in recognitions, psychosocial factors related to physical activity and physical activity in terms of the stages of change model on practical behavior among adolescents. Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study a cluster random sampling in 16 schools selected from 233 junior and senior high schools in Sanandaj, Iran resulted in a number of 1073 students (mean age= 14.37±1.6, 52% females, 48% males) who completed self-report questionnaires which were measured by selected benefited structures from Pender’s Health Promotion model consisting: p...
Paper: MOTHERS'PERCEPTIONS ON FAMILIAL CORRELATES OF OVERWEIGHT AND OBESITY RELATED BEHAVIORS IN ADOLESCENTS: A QUALITATIVE STUDY

To educate the public about safety effectively, determinants of safe behavior must be addressed. Personality constructs are among the most important determinants of safe behavior. One of the personality constructs that has been studied recently in relation to accidents is locus of control. The main aim of this study was designing, validating, and determining the reliability of safety locus of control scale. Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive, cross-sectional study. The "forward-backward" procedure was applied to translate safety locus of control scale (Jones and Becker 1985) from English to Persian. To determine the scientific validity of the scale , face validity and content validity by expert judgments were used. Internal consistency was determined using Cronbach's α-coefficient. Questionnaires were distributed to a group of 400 workers from different parts of Isfahan Steel Company. Finally, 317 workers completed the questionnaires. Exploratory factor analysis was performed with software SPSS13, and confirmatory factor analysis was performed with software LISREL8.8. Results: The exploratory factor analysis results revealed that the three components of the items can be extracted from the scale including internal control (4 questions), environmental and equipment control (4 questions), and chance and fate (4 questions). Confirmatory factor analysis using maximum likelihood estimation results indicated that the data had good fit with three-component scale and fit indices were acceptable: c 2 ∕df=3.96, df=41, c 2 =120.59, RMSIA=0.080, 95% Confidence Interval=0.64-0.097, CFI=0.96, GFI=0.94, AGFI=0.89. The internal control components and equipment and environmental control were negatively correlated with each other (P≤0.05, r=-0.41). Also, a weak correlation between chance and fate and environmental and equipment control was seen (P≤0.05, r=0.31). In most studies, designing a scale and determining its validity and reliability is costly and time consuming. The available reliable and valid scale leads to reduced costs and accelerated research. In other words, duplication will be avoided. The scale obtained in this study can be used in safety and industrial psychology research.

Accident-Related Risk Behaviors Associated with Motivations for Motorcycle Use in Iran: A Country with Very High Traffic Deaths
Traffic Injury Prevention, 2009
Injuries caused by motor vehicle accidents in Middle East countries are among the highest in the ... more Injuries caused by motor vehicle accidents in Middle East countries are among the highest in the world. Several successful interventions preventing road traffic injuries in developed countries have been practiced; however, these interventions have not been tailored to the cultural, behavioral, and environmental milieu of low- and middle-income countries. Scientifically based efforts to understand risk factors for traffic injury in these countries are needed and they must be translated into prevention programs that are well designed and assessed. This qualitative study is designed to delineate motorcycle use among Iranian motorcyclists and identify motivational correlates for risk behaviors that may result in accidental injury and death. Focus groups and in-depth interviews were conducted among motorcyclists, motorcycle passengers, and police officers. Seven accident-related risk behaviors were identified: (1) performing stunts, (2) disobeying traffic rules, (3) driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, (4) riding without proper skills or qualifications, (5) illegally transporting passengers, (6) illegally transporting cargo, and (7) not wearing a helmet. These behaviors correspond with four main motivational themes for motorcycle-riding that emerged from our data: (1) convenient commuting, (2) occupational transportation, (3) recreation and sensation seeking, and (4) criminal activity. This study indicates that Iranian motorcyclists can be categorized into distinct groups according to motivation for motorcycle use. The results of this study indicate that motorcyclist risky behaviors are related to motivational factors. Furthermore, regardless of the motivational factors, disobedience of traffic rules was a common risk behavior among all four motivational groups. The relationship between motivation to ride and associated risk behaviors is important because it begins to build a general framework that will help researchers target specific groups that are most in need of interventions to reduce motorcycle accidents in Iran.

The infection rate for Giardia was 18.1% (76 children) in both schools. The case group included 30 children that were selected from the school no. 1 with Giardia infection. The same number of children from the school no. 2 with Giardia infection was selected as the control group. After being treated by a pediatrician and cured of Giardia, all children in both groups were checked for parasitic infection. The case group and their mothers were separately covered by the health education programs for 3 months, whereas the control group was not covered. The,n both groups were checked three times for Giardia infection. The rate increased to 23.3% in the case group and 86.7% in the control group, showing a significant difference between two groups (p < 0.05).

This study utilized a cross-sectional survey of high school students. The setting was the unified school districts in the County of Los Angeles, California. The participants comprised a geographically defined convenience sample of 502 Hispanic and African American high school students. This study found that only 50% of this sample reported that they plan to remain sexually abstinent until they graduate from high school. Another 21% rejected the notion of remaining abstinent, and 29% were uncertain about their intention to engage in sexual activities before they graduate from high school. Male and African American students were less likely than their female and Latino counterparts to report an intention to remain sexually inactive. Using multinomial logistic regression and controlling for demographic characteristics, this study documented that students with (1) a higher level of perceived peer pressure, (2) a lower level of behavioral and refusal skills for avoiding sexual activity, (3) a more positive attitude toward practicing safe sex, and (4) a lower level of perceived pregnancy repercussions were less likely to claim to remain sexually inactive. The data from this study support the IMB model, which suggests that intervention programs focusing on knowledge alone are inconsequential in altering the intentions of adolescents with respect to their decision to engage in sexual activity. Intervention programs should focus on encouraging youth to postpone sexual activity by reducing peer pressure and building self-efficacy through enhancing motivations and culturally appropriate behavioral skills.
