Safiyyah Sabreen Syeed
I am a Science and Technology Studies researcher based in the UK. I completed my bachelor's in mechanical engineering from Anna Malai University, India in 2011. Being interested in the interdisciplinary field of Religion, Science and Philosophy, I shifted from Engineering to Humanities and completed an M.A in Philosophy. I also completed a certificate course in Arabic language in 2023 along with pursuing a second master's degree, this time, in Islamic Studies.
After having received a University Fellowship on qualifying an All-India national exam in the humanities field (UGC-NET), I started my research at the Islamic University of Science and Technology in Kashmir. I spent a year studying the Applicability of Iqbalian metaphysics to questions of Quantum Physics, Consciousness and Fine Tuning in the universe. I have also worked as an Assistant Professor at Department of Philosophy, Cluster University, teaching modules on Bioethics, Philosophy of Science, Logic and Indian Philosophy.
In 2019, I created a mini film series on the Islamic scientific tradition in collaboration with a UAE based media house. This led to the production of my own online series -The Second Golden Age where I highlighted the significant contributions of the Islamic scientific revolution to the making of the contemporary world. I am also the Secretary Media and Research of Homa- Civilizational Dialogue and Harmony Foundation.
In August 2024, I qualified for a UK Research and Innovation scholarship. This research project aims at highlighting the significant contributions of Islamic scientists and engineers to the development of Artificial Intelligence and Algorithmic sciences and broadly to the making of the contemporary world. This project is based on a collaboration between University of Liverpool and the World Museum.
