The United Nations is exploring the prospects of social media to advocate and accomplish the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). India, one of the mobile-first countries, where smartphones evoke popular media and raise awareness of healthcare issues, has inspired young Indians to find solutions for their daily struggles. The advent of inexpensive and easily available mobile-based social media applications like WhatsApp has become an important channel for health communication. Artificial intelligence-powered mobile chatbots possess the capacity to understand languages beyond pre-programmed instructions and generate responses using the existing information in the system. This allows users to proactively communicate their motives in their own words, speeding up interpersonal communication. The non-profit Girl Effect and WhatsApp designed the Bol Behen (Speak Sister) Chatbot to cater to Hinglish (Hindi and English) speaking young women about their general and sexual well-being. To explore the stages of user behaviour change during interactions with a chatbot, a thematic analysis was conducted based on user interviews and was further guided by an integrative transtheoretical model of change proposed by Prochaska and DiClemente (1983). These stages included the user's interaction communication process through technology design, user engagement, content, and interface design. The study also provided insights on the challenges related to AI chatbots, like data privacy and accountability, in light of its links to the theory of technological determinism.

Podcasts are audio-based new media that have shown the potential to facilitate storytelling and engage listeners into effective communication. The introduction of Web 2.0 in the late 1990s resulted in an increase in access and usage of new media technologies. New media interventions in the emerging media paradigm have the potential to bring up stigmatized conversations related to mental health and foster mindfulness amongst individuals. Mindfulness requires intrapersonal communication wherein an individual seeks self-awareness to work towards their mental wellbeing. Podcasting's increasing appeal has the potential to improve listeners' mental health by providing an atmosphere for freedom of expression, learning, and motivation. The study aims to explore the affective nature of an aural medium like a podcast that serves the listeners with a sensorial experience of listening and imagining that can also act as sound therapy to facilitate mindfulness. The research will be carried out using content analysis of selected podcasts that feature content promoting mindfulness. The study will focus on the narrative text of selected podcasts. The qualitative study used focus group discussions with postgraduate media students selected through a purposive sample of participants who listen to podcasts to keep their mental health in check. The discussion consisted of conversations to understand the various genres of podcasts and shows that the listeners listen to, their motivations, interests, and attitudes behind the listeners seeking the help of an audio based new media technology for mindfulness. The findings of the research laid out potential benefits of the affective and sensorial nature of the medium and challenges of the podcast format to seek mental wellbeing in self-isolation.

Dance is a non-verbal mode of communication, and the goal of the study is to learn how it may be used as a communication intervention for the mental health of teenagers. The implications of study explores Dance movement therapy as a community intervention for development communication facilitators and social workers to use this strategy as an ice breaker session. The study employed action research and the data was collected using qualitative methods like focus group discussions, field observation, and key informant interviews. The study also used intimate and in depth DMT approaches in a field workshop conducted by the researcher as a facilitator with 11 adolescent girls from Nithari village. The DMT interventions aid in the integration of abilities such as self-awareness, body awareness and confidence in venting out their inner feelings. Major findings of the study reveals that DMT interventions proved to be an efficient component of participatory media as it has the ability to give instantaneous feedback. The study also revealed that dance movement therapy can act as an effective instrument for fostering community engagement.
