In this paper, we are focusing on designing of a system that will monitor the open or close state of drivers eyes in real time. Video camera is placed on a car desk in front of driver for monitoring eyes state of the driver. This system in turn detects drowsiness of driver. The system uses Viola Jones method which detects objects in the images i.e. detects face and eye localization is done by Haar like features. If eyes remain closed for the successive frames, system gives indication as "drowsy driver".

Since car accidents may be caused by the driver’s tiredness, there are some assistance systems designed for bringing the attention of a driver. In this paper, we review different measures and discuss its advantages and limitations and we are also discussing different indicators of sleepiness in this paper. We conclude that by designing a hybrid drowsiness detection system that combines the non-intrusive physiological measures with other measures one would accurately determine the drowsiness level of a driver.

Traditional transportation system is no longer sufficient. In this paper we propose a new method for eye state analysis, in which we incorporate four step system for drowsiness detection: face detection, eye detection, eye state analysis and drowsy decision. Our novel eye detection first uses face detection to remove the background and then by using an eye detection method which uses brightness and roundness of the eye and iris it would detect whether the eyes are open or not.

The driver is supposed to wear the eye blink sensor frame throughout the course of driving and blink has to be for a couple of seconds to detect drowsiness. Any random changes in steering movement leads to reduction in wheel speed. The threshold of the vibration sensor can be varied and accordingly action can be taken. The outcome is that the vibrator attached to eye blink sensor’s frame vibrates if the driver falls asleep and also the LCD displays the warning messages. The wheel is slowed or stopped depending on the condition. This is accompanied by the owner being notified through the GSM module, so the owner can retrieve the driver’s location, photograph and police station list near to driver’s location. This is how the driver can be alerted during drowsiness and the owner can be notified simultaneously

Monitoring a driver to detect inattention is a complex problem that involves physiological and behavioral elements. Different approaches have been made, and among them Computer Vision has the potential of monitoring the person behind the wheel without interfering with his driving. In this paper I have developed a system that can monitor the alertness of drivers in order to prevent people from falling asleep at the wheel. The other main aim of this algorithm is to have efficient performance on low quality webcam and without the use of infrared light which is harmful for the human eye. Motor vehicle accidents cause injury and death, and this system will help to decrease the amount of crashes due to fatigued drivers. The proposed algorithm will work in three main stages. In first stage the face of the driver is detected and tracked. In the second stage the facial features are extracted for further processing. In last stage the most crucial parameter is monitored which is eye's status. In the last stage it is determined that whether the eyes are closed or open. On the basis of this result the warning is issued to the driver to take a break.

Some of these accidents are the result of the driver's medical condition. However, a majority of these accidents are related to driver fatigue, drowsiness of drivers. Car accidents associated with driver fatigue are more likely to be serious, leading to serious injuries and deaths. In this paper, an algorithm for drivers' drowsiness detection based on eye states tracking is presented. I use a database which contains 150 images captured from different people in various conditions for better results. These images are captured using a camera located in a car in front of the driver. These sensors can be used in automotive active safety systems that aim at detecting driver's fatigue, a major issue to prevent road accidents. The key point of this approach is to design a prototype of sensor units, so that it can serve as platform for integrating different kinds of sensors into the steering wheel. Since the sensors are attached to the steering wheel, therefore they can't be detached by the driver. It will also detect dangerous stylish driving which may lead to fatal accidents. The major drawback is that the eye blink sensors frame worn by the driver can be removed causing the sensor non-operational. The outcome is that the vibrator attached to eye blink sensor's frame vibrates if the driver shuts his eyes for approximately 3 seconds and also the LCD displays the respective warning message. The wheel is slowed or stopped depending on the condition. This is accompanied by the vehicle's owner being notified through the GSM module, so the owner can retrieve the driver's location, photograph and a list of nearby police stations through an android mobile application.
