This is seen in their ability to modulate plasma glucose concentrations. However, the ideal proportions of macronutrients to be consumed in order to maintain ideal plasma glucose concentrations remains elusive. Therefore, this paper set out to conduct a review to investigate the relationship between macronutrients and plasma glucose concentrations from a physiological perspective. The review was conducted using papers obtained from various databases such as MEDLINE (Pubmed), Open Access Journals Elsevier, Free Medical Journals and Google Scholar. The research papers included general reviews, systemic reviews, meta-analyses, and randomized control trials that examined the effect of macronutrients on plasma glucose concentration as well as papers on mathematical models describing the relationship between macronutrient bioavailability and plasma glucose concentration. The review assessed the effect of various macronutrients on postprandial plasma glucose concentration, post-prandial plasma insulin, post-prandial glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide plasma concentration, and post-prandial glucose-like peptide-1 plasma concentration. The results of the review showed that carbohydrates influence plasma glucose concentration in a dose dependant manner but this is dependent on their bioavailability. This bioavailability was shown to be subject to fluctuations determined by food processing techniques, food structure, and food matrix. The results also showed that some specific types of fats and proteins indirectly influence plasma glucose concentration through their effect on incretin hormones. The effect of fats and proteins on incretin hormones was through different mechanisms and pathways. In-lieu of the findings, the review concludes that the macronutrient composition of diets designed for type 2 diabetic patients should take into consideration the physiological relationship between the macronutrients and plasma glucose concentrations. In this way, diet proportions can be made in such a manner as to determine the exact amounts that will realize near normal plasma glucose concentrations for a type 2 diabetic patient.

Server virtualization provides capabilities to run multiple virtual machines (VMs) independently in a shared host leading to efficient utilization of server resources. Unfortunately, VMs experience interference from each other as a result of sharing common hardware. The performance interference arises from VMs having to compete for the hypervisor capacity and as a result of resource contention, which happens when resource demands exceed the allocated resources. From this viewpoint, any VM allocation policy needs to take into account VM performance interference before VM placement. Therefore, understanding how to measure performance interference is crucial. In this paper, we propose a simple experimental approach that can be used to measure performance interference in Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud during VM consolidation.

The utility derived from the technology in the learning process of a student has not been considered and determined over the years. The internet is a valuable resource used in the discipline of education and has brought significant changes and developments. Hence, there is a challenge in determining whether its use in learning contributes to the learning output of a student or not. The use of internet technology in higher learning institutions has been influenced by factors that affect both the student and the institutions. These factors include the knowledge of a student in the use of the technology (which ends up affecting their level of interaction with the technology), the total investment made by an institution in the provision of the technology and the usability of the technology that has been invested in. This paper addresses the measure of internet technology utilization in the learning environment by applying the Cobb Douglas production theorem.

Unfortunately, they consume a great deal of energy accounting for 3% of global electrical energy consumption. The effect of this is that, cloud providers experience high operating costs, which leading to increased Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of datacentre infrastructure. Moreover, there is increased carbon dioxide emissions that affects the universe. This paper presents a survey on the various ways in which energy is consumed in datacentre infrastructure. The factors that influence energy consumption within a datacentre is presented as well.

More specifically, they are caused by anthropogenic activities that strain and damage the environment. Modelling environmental conflict is one of the fundamental ways providing means of solving them. In order to understand and model them, it is critical to identify potential and/or existing conflict causes (structural causes or proximate causes), as well as possible factors contributing to peace. In this paper, the dynamic time varying model for predicting environmental conflict is developed using Bayesian theory. The initial (state) conditions which play a significant role in the success of conflict resolution are estimated through a logistic probability model. An analogy on the application of the model in modelling of environmentally-induced conflict is given.

This challenge requires a multifaceted approach to manage and control the complications associated with the hyperglycaemia or hypoglycaemia conditions. This paper presents a mathematical model for determining the influence of combined intervention strategies in the management and control for the plasma glucose of the type II diabetes. System dynamics (SD) techniques were used in modelling the sub-compartments of biological systems of an Identifiable Patient (IP). The system dynamic model developed gave an illustration on how typical glucose-insulin dynamics occur at different intervention strategies involving varying amounts of carbohydrates taken, intensity of physical exercises, stress levels and the amount of exogenous insulin administered. The model was conceptualized within a semi-closed loop system representing the patient ecos...

The systems include enterprise systems which are implemented to enhance institutional management given their emphasis on standardisation, streamlining, and integration of business operations. In this study, the authors have established that Kenyan universities have mainly implemented systems for finance and accounting, student admissions, examinations management, and library services. The authors have also established that there are no significant differences in information systems needs among Kenyan universities, but there are significant differences in strengths and weaknesses among the private and public universities in the capabilities of systems they have implemented. The authors have further established that despite fears especially on delays in projects implementation and system costs, Kenyan universities are in a position to implement enterprise systems to facilitate their operations. However, the universities need to allocate more funds to systems implementation if they have to successfully implement enterprise systems which generally require more resources than ordinary software applications.

Understanding the behavior and resource demands of cloud application workloads is key in data center capacity planning, cloud infrastructure testing, performance tuning and cloud computing research. Additionally, cloud providers want to ensure Quality of Service (QoS), reduce Service Level Agreement (SLA) violations and minimize energy consumption. To achieve this, cloud workload analysis is critical. However, scanty information is known about the characteristics of these workloads because cloud providers are not willing to share such information for confidentiality and business reasons. Besides, there is lack of documented techniques for workload characterization. To alleviate this situation, in this paper we perform the first meticulous study on statistical techniques ...

However, research productivity of academic staff in Kenyan universities is characterised by limited publications, resulting in the low positioning of Kenyan universities in global rankings. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of human capital and dynamic capabilities on research productivity of academic staff in Kenyan universities. This study adopted a correlational research design and sampled 392 academic staff members. Both regression and bootstrap analyses were used to test the hypotheses. The findings revealed that human capital has a significant influence on research productivity of academic staff in Kenyan universities; however, the influence of human capital is not direct, but is partially mediated by dynamic capabilities. The outcomes of the study provide insight to academic staff to invest heavily in both human capital and dynamic capabilities to foster research productivity. Additionally, the results of the study provide an understanding to the university management on possible strategic choices that can boost the research productivity of academic staff.

This is due to the central role that prediction plays in planning for resources in a constrained learning environment. Availability of the large educational dataset has promoted the emergence of various analytical approaches aimed at providing accurate prediction. Most of these approaches have relied on data that measure specific outcome rather than tracking the process that leads to a particular outcome. This paper proposes a Stochastic Differential Equation predictive model that evaluates in an analytic way the process leading to a certain level in student performance. The model will use data based on the behavioural patterns in the use of Internet Technology.

This prediction was aimed at finding out how different learning styles are achieved within learning environments which are specifically influenced by already existing factors. These learning styles, have been affected by different factors that are mainly engraved and found within the students learning environment. To obtain the learning styles, a data mining technique was used and this explicitly involved the use of pattern analysis in order to identify the underlying learning styles in the data collected from the learners. This paper highlights the five major learning styles that describe the patterns extracted from the collected data. Therefore, considering the changed learning ecosystem, it is clear that prediction of student learning styles can be done when the various factor inputs within the student environment are brought together and analyzed to focus on le...
