Atia Abawi's novel A Land of Permanent Goodbyes is a story about a teenage boy, Tareq, who has almost lost his world except for his father and his sister. The brutal and vulnerable Syrian war that destroyed many innocent people's homes, families and lives hadn't excused any things around the periphery. Once the war broke out in Syria in 2011, the destruction altered the normal life into abnormalities in no time, as the residential area turned into a place of grimy dust, killing numbers of people and traumatizing the entire Syrian, not even sparing women and children. In the novel, Tareq's house is bombed due to which he is forced to flee from his place of origin to some other unknown territory looking for safety in a strange land to settle with his family members. This article, which will be a three-part analysis, will examine the novel A Land of Permanent Goodbyes from various theoretical perspectives. The first part will analyze how humanism and anti-humanism have played a crucial role in treating the victimized people in the novel. Secondly, it will discuss the recontextualization of the trauma of the victimized family members who had to struggle to become refugees (no identity/ homelessness) with the hope to find a safer place away from home. And finally, it will discuss how the political and economic condition is linked directly and indirectly with the right to have rights of the refugee.
