Sea Rotmann
Dr. Sea Rotmann has worked on energy and behaviour change research and interventions for almost 20 years. She was the Principal Scientist at New Zealand’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) before
starting her own consultancy called SEA - Sustainable Energy Advice Ltd, in 2011. She ran the first global behaviour change research collaboration for the International Energy Agency's Demand-Side Management Programme (IEADSM) called ‘Task 24: Behaviour Change in DSM’ from 2012 to 2019. In this Task, she worked
on field research pilots across the world in sectors as varied as hospital sustainability in North America; P2P neighbourhood sharing schemes in Aotearoa New Zealand; green leases in Sweden; and library energy audit loan kits in Ireland. Her current research collaboration under the User-Centred Energy Systems (Users TCP) Technology Collaboration Programme by the IEA focuses on hard-to-reach (HTR) energy users in the residential and commercial sectors. The focus of Phase 2 of this Task is how hidden energy users and energy justice considerations need to be prioritised to achieve a truly "just" energy transition. Dr. Sea is actually a coral reef ecologist by background and has a deep and abiding obsession with all things tentacled - particularly, ‘the Kraken’ - which covers 90% of everything she owns.

decarbonize our buildings. This requirement
arises from our needs, lifestyle energy
choices and interactions with buildings,
and is an underexploited, yet essential
demand-side opportunity for rapid and
sustainable decarbonization. We propose a
sufciency-oriented approach that fosters
equitable building decarbonization, while
maintaining planetary boundaries.
