In this project, a conceptual design of a robotic exoskeleton for the neurological rehabilitation... more In this project, a conceptual design of a robotic exoskeleton for the neurological rehabilitation of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is presented. Here, a PC based GUI interface and EMG and EEG based feedback system is used. The proposed system presents a lightweight, portable solution aimed at promoting user engagement in the rehabilitation process. The robotic exoskeleton provides a method of delivering assisted therapy to a range of TMD sufferers. The device utilizes a two degree of freedom mechanism to provide actuator assisted motion of the temporomandibular joint. The system will provide a significant advantage to existing TMD rehabilitation devices, allowing for the first time a portable system that provides programmable assisted therapy functions. The software will incorporate a number of assist-as-needed therapy routines, to aid the efforts of the user in completing preprogrammed therapeutic tasks.
