The authors do a comprehensive comparison of the Swedish Information Systems undergraduate progra... more The authors do a comprehensive comparison of the Swedish Information Systems undergraduate programs in order to on the one hand get a better understanding of how the Swedish curriculum compares to the Australian and US counter parts and on the other hand also get an understanding of where the IS field has changed over time. This change is debated to get a clearer view of what courses should be core in a post 2020 curriculum. The study points to some significant overlaps where Foundations of Information Systems, Data and Information Management, and Systems Analysis and Design are important for both Swedish, Australian, and US undergraduate IS programs. The study also shows differences in focus in the different countries’ curricula, where the Swedish programs have a clear focus towards enterprise architecture and application development in comparison to both the Australian and US counterparts.

These studies are mainly based on case studies and focus in particular on the new world and the USA. Despite this increasing attention, little is still known on Italian wineries considering the country context. The present study sheds the light on the emerging attention on sustainability paid by the Italian wineries presenting their novel dimensions and practices. A thrivable entrepreneurial ecosystem aims to create prosperity through ecosystem resource (re)generation and transformation to define long-term economic goals. The framework is applied here to address the grand challenge of sustainable development in wineries. A local wine ecosystem in Italy is employed as a case study supported by mix-method-based, in-depth data collection (survey and interview). Challenges with smart cities initiatives: A municipal decision makers perspective

To manage these concerns municipal decision makers' attempt to leverage the smart city concept with collaboration between external actors as a means to maintain the prepossessed living standard in the city. By developing a framework based on existing literature and validating it with municipal decision makers view on the framework, this paper attempts to further the discussion on the predominant challenges in smart city initiatives from the municipal decision makers' perspective in mid-sized European cities. The study is based on a pre-study conducted via 39 interviews in 25 different EU-cities. This followed by interviews with 12 decision makers' in 10 different cities. The results show that municipal decision makers mainly perceive challenges with nontechnical issues such as collaboration, economical, governance and awareness of technology -however security is not perceived as a challenge.

Smart Cities as Organizational Fields: A Framework for Mapping Sustainability-Enabling Configurations

Despite the impressive growth of smart city initiatives worldwide, an organizational theory of sm... more Despite the impressive growth of smart city initiatives worldwide, an organizational theory of smart city has yet to be developed, and we lack models addressing the unprecedented organizational and management challenges that emerge in smart city contexts. Traditional models are often of little use, because smart cities pursue different goals than traditional organizations, are based on networked, cross-boundary activity systems, rely on distributed innovation processes, and imply adaptive policy-making. Complex combinations of factors may lead to vicious or virtuous cycles in smart city initiatives, but we know very little about how these factors may be identified and mapped. Based on an inductive study of a set of primary and secondary sources, we develop a framework for the configurational analysis of smart cities viewed as place-specific organizational fields. This framework identifies five key dimensions in the configurations of smart city fields; these five dimensions are mapped through five sub-frameworks, which can be used both separately as well as for an integrated analysis. Our contribution is conceived to support longitudinal studies, natural experiments and comparative analyses on smart city fields, and to improve our understanding of how different combinations of factors affect the capability of smart innovations to translate into city resilience, sustainability and quality of life. In addition, our results suggest that new forms of place-based entrepreneurship constitute the engine that allows for the dynamic collaboration between government, citizens and research centers in successful smart city organizational fields.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is arguably an important, emblematic and ubiquitou... more Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is arguably an important, emblematic and ubiquitous technology of contemporary society. For many incumbent firms, the infusion of ICT into their industries poses both threats and opportunities. It might drive significant shifts of financial wealth and make firm performance change drastically. It entails managerial challenges of a kind we might not have seen before, but where knowledge of what possibilities and limitations reside in ICT will be a key success factor. One strategy to incorporate ICT-capability is developing the capability in-house; another strategy is to shortcut the learning curve and form alliance with someone having ICT-capability. By applying a design science approach a framework for ICT-capability transfer is put forth, a framework based on 62 interviews from stakeholders with experience of ICT-motivated alliances. By using this framework the risk of failure is reduced.

Further, the research looked to identify some characteristics that differentiate an active municipality from a passive one in order to understand what stops all municipalities from being equally active.

File-sharing has become synonym with the "digital economy" where large music conglomerates as wel... more File-sharing has become synonym with the "digital economy" where large music conglomerates as well as certain artist voice strong concern over the impact on their bottom line. This research analyzes the music industry, which has been heavily impacted by a major technological shift i.e. the invention, and rollout, of the Internet. We look to the technological shift that has enabled the downloading phenomenon, as well as analyze the uniqueness of the music industries situation. By comparing the book publishing industry as well as the software industry, which are arguably also influenced by intellectual property rights and plagiarism, we try to find similarities as well as dissimilarities with the music industry. We find that the music industry has used alliances as well as Mergers and Acquisitions in order to consolidate their positions in an attempt to slow down change. There is no consensus on the exact extent of ill effects of filesharing. We point to an unwillingness to achieve convergence of purpose between the IT-community and the much of the music industry. Finally we point to the historical fact that consumers always get what they want in the end, which should indicate a need to find a viable e-commerce solution.

In the last years the use of information communication technologies (ICTs) has become a leading d... more In the last years the use of information communication technologies (ICTs) has become a leading driver of OECD national health systems to improve healthcare quality and reduce healthcare costs (Oecd, 2010). In fact, the use of ICTs are a primary lever of OECD countries to enhance the efficiency and the effectiveness of health services delivered to the citizens. This has led the Italian government to assign priority to electronic healthcare and specifically to the creation and adoption of electronic health record (EHR) (Bergamaschi, Laura, & Elianna, 2006). We analysed the experience of developing and implementing an electronic medical record, core element of a EHR, by the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Integrata (Integrated NHS-University Hospital) of Verona. We identified the critical factors in the system implementation, its organizational impact, and the effects on clinical practice as perceived by the system’s users. (Less)
