In this contribution, we provide a detailed analysis of the search operation for the Interval Mer... more In this contribution, we provide a detailed analysis of the search operation for the Interval Merging Binary Tree (IMBT), an efficient data structure proposed earlier to handle typical anomalies in the transmission of data packets. A framework is provided to decide under which conditions IMBT outperforms other data structures typically used in the field, as a function of the statistical characteristics of the commonly occurring anomalies in the arrival of data packets. We use in the modeling Bernstein theorem, Markov property, Fibonacci sequences, bipartite multi-graphs, and contingency tables.

In our paper we present the simulation of the propagation characteristics of the satellite-to-ind... more In our paper we present the simulation of the propagation characteristics of the satellite-to-indoor propagation channel. Our first aim has been to find a correct description of the polarization state of the received inside wave. The result of our first investigations is that the polarization state of the indoor wave signigicantly changes as we move further away from the windows that are the secondary source of radiation. First we examine how the polarization state of a complex harmonic field can be described, and then the results of our first simulations of the polarization state will be presented. A modified 3D raylaunching tool has been utilized for the coverage prediction. A detailed analysis of the dependence of the indoor wave on the elevation angle of the satellite is given, and the wideband characteristics of the channel: delay spread characteristics and Doppler spread, caused by satellite movement are dealt with. A powerful use case for voice recording is the case of meetings and other social events. A single... more A powerful use case for voice recording is the case of meetings and other social events. A single recorder is a point device which has a local perspective of the event, meaning that it can record the voice of people nearby but cannot accurately record audio events that happen further away. By letting smart phones record audio content point-wise and exchange the locally recorded content to other smart phones over ad-hoc proximity connections, each smart phone will gain a broader perspective and a consistent audio representation of the entire event. In this paper we analyze such a scenario in which Symbian S60 platforms with Bluetooth version 1.2 stack were used. A distributed recording and content delivery framework is proposed and its performance analyzed by means of simulation and measurements. The validation of our algorithm has been performed using a prototype implementation over these platforms.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) protocols implemented in wireless networks and mixed scenarios would generate ... more Peer-to-peer (P2P) protocols implemented in wireless networks and mixed scenarios would generate new applications and value added services. In order to analyze the performance of such protocols the specific topologies of current and future wireless networks should be taken into account. In our paper we analyze the performance of a Gnutella-type protocol query engine on random mesh (Random), semi-random mesh (Semi), connected stars (ConStars) and connected mesh (ConMesh) application layer network topologies. In addition we discuss and simulate for the considered topologies the effect of adaptive time-to-live (TTL) techniques. We take into account in our analysis the document replication phenomenon. Within this paper we limit ourselves to the simulation of static network topologies. The results of this study show that Semi and ConStars are the most useful topologies. Semi is the best topology for heterogeneous devices, e.g. all of the nodes are mobile phones. ConStars is useful when the network consists of devices with different capabilities, e.g. mobile phones and PC-s. If the node degrees are chosen appropriately the bandwidth needs can reasonably small making content sharing peer-to-peer applications feasible in pure wireless networks and mixed scenarios.
