As the mainstay of the Kotor nobility, the Bućas left an exceptionally large heraldic inheritance, their coats of arms being present in ali heraldic collections in this part of Europe and on the preserved archival material of medieval Kotor.Exceptionally beautiful specimen done in Stone plastic can be found even today on many spots in the old town of Kotor as well as in other parts of Boka Kotorska, where members of this family had their estates and villas. This work attempts to offer possible answers to several open issues connected with the original coat of arms of the family Buća, time of and reasons for alterations made to their heraldic signs, the life of a ,,new“ coat of arms in medieval Kotor included. In the course of the tumultuous centuries of their existence the family Buća followed the destiny of other Kotor families. Frequent changes of political and economical circumstances resulted in stagnation of the family and after a period of expanding and gaining in power, the fali was unavoidable. These changes were to some extent accompanied by alterations to the heraldic signs of the family and the subject of this work is to try to fmd and determine some of them. The family Buća left one of the most complex heraldic heritages of medieval Kotor and its richness is a sufficient proof of the greatness of the heraldic heritage of the town itself.
