Analysis of the three known rock art sites in the San Miguel region (vereda) shows a marked difference in motif style and application technique indicating a possible different cultural origin in this transitional area for petroglyphs emphasizing an anthropomorphic theme when compared to the completely geometric red pictograph. Rock artists for this area may have been the Muisca, the Panche, or earlier inhabitants of the area.

In the Subachoque, Cundinamarca, Colombia Valley, 50% of the sites are found on an ancient sal trading trail marking the border between the Subachoque and Chinga Indian tribes. Many rocks selected for the art are in the shape of frogs that were harbingers of rain according to Muisca tradition.

Crop planting, tribal ceremonies, rituals and shamanic “journeys” may have been held on the dates marked by the alignments at sunrise. A spiral in a circle may have been used in association with a grooved rock to mark the summer solstice sunrise. A prominent hilltop may have been used to mark the summer solstice sunset.

These stone tool polishing sites may or may not be close to habitation or rock art sites, but were always conveniently located where native stone workers had easy access to water.
One such site was located in the high mountains west of Subachoque, Cundinamarca, Colombia. The object of this paper is to describe the site, the primary use of the rock and a study of the processes involving in making and using polished lithic tools.

While mapping the Jaboque wetlands they discovered four stone menhirs called “Piedras de Los Indios” (Indian Rocks) by local inhabitants. The author was asked to investigate the menhirs with regard to possible astronomical alignments. During the investigation more menhirs were found, bringing the total to 14 menhirs and one associated square rock. Pre-Columbian menhirs have been described in the northern Muísca territory of Boyacá, but never before in the southern Cundinamarca region. The author was asked to investigate archeoastronomical relationships and discovered solstice and Scorpius alignments using the stone menhirs
