The present paper proposes a graph-based extractive Arabic text summarization (GEATS) technique that employs word embedding and PageRank algorithms for feature extraction and sentence ordering. The efficiency of the GEATS approach versus the state-of-the-art methods is analyzed based on the quality of the produced summaries over the F-measure values. The findings indicated that it outperformed the nearest alternative by an advantage of over 7.5%.

The goal of this study is to optimize multivariable functions using Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) which is one of the most current swarm intelligence-based algorithms, simulating the foraging activity of honeybees. The performance of the ABC algorithm has been measured on the minimization process of 22 benchmark functions including the popular Griewank, Rastrigin, Sphere, and Rosenbrock. The experimental results demonstrate that the ABC algorithm has approximated the actual value with an accuracy percentage of 98.85.

An interpreter is typically required when an ordinary person wishes to communicate with a deaf person. Visual sign language recognition is a dynamic area of research in computer vision. A functional sign language recognition (SLR) system can provide an opportunity for a deaf person to communicate with non-signed persons without the need for an interpreter. It can be used to produce speech or text that makes the mute more autonomous. Arabic Sign Language Recognition (ArSLR) is an important area of study. It helps to eliminate barriers between the deaf and the community. This paper includes a review of the Arabic Sign Language Recognition System (ArSLRS). Present challenges and future research opportunities are also illustrated.

As a result, there has been an increasing demand for technological solutions to overcome such challenges. The Internet of Things (IoT) has recently emerged to improve many aspects of human's day-today activities and routines. IoT makes it easier to follow the safety guidelines and precautions provided by the World Health Organization (WHO). Prior reports have shown that the world nowadays may need more IoT facilities than ever before. However, little is known about the reaction of the IoT community towards defeating the COVID-19 pandemic, technologies being used, solutions being provided, and how our societies perceive the IoT means available to them. In this paper, we conduct an empirical study to investigate the IoT response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, we study the characteristics of the IoT solutions hosted on a large online IoT community (i.e., Hackster.io) throughout the year of 2020. The study: (a) explores the proportion, types, and nations of IoT solutions/engineers that contributed to defeating COVID-19, (b) characterizes the complexity of COVID-19 IoT solutions, and (c) identifies how IoT solutions are perceived by the surrounding community. Our results indicate that IoT engineers have been actively working towards providing solutions to help their societies, especially in the most affected nations. Our findings (i) provide insights into the aspects IoT practitioners need to pay more attention to when developing IoT solutions for COVID-19 and to (ii) outlines the common IoT solutions and technologies available to humans to deal with the current challenges.
