The system uses a set of wireless technologies and software agents which integrate reasoning and planning mechanisms. It has the ability to obtain automatic and real-time information about the context to schedule the security guards activities. The combination of technologies enables users to interact with the system in a simple, natural and intuitive way.

Cloud Computing is centered on the user and offers an efficient, secure and elastically scalable way of providing and acquiring services. Likewise, Ambient Intelligence (AmI) is also an emerging paradigm based on ubiquitous computing that proposes new ways of interaction between humans and machines, making technology adapt to the users' necessities. One of the most important aspects in AmI is the use of context-aware technologies such as Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) to perceive stimuli from both the users and the environment. In this regard, this paper presents Cloud-IO, a Cloud Computing platform for the fast integration and deployment of services over WSNs.

One of the most important technologies used to provide context-awareness is Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). Wireless Sensor Networks comprise an ideal technology to develop Real-Time Locating Systems (RTLS) aimed at indoor environments, where existing global navigation satellite systems do not work correctly. In this regard, n-Core Polaris is an indoor and outdoor RTLS based on ZigBee WSNs and an innovative set of locating and automation engines. This paper presents the main components of the n-Core Polaris, as well as some experiments made in a real scenario whose results demonstrate the effectiveness of the system in indoor environments.

The system makes use of a Case-Based Reasoning system which generates predictions to determine the probability of finding oil slicks in certain areas of the ocean. CBR uses past information to generate new solutions to the current problem. The system employs a distributed multi-agent architecture so that the main components of the system can be accessed remotely. Therefore, all functionalities can communicate in a distributed way, even from mobile devices. The core of the system is a group of deliberative agents acting as controllers and administrators for all functionalities. The system has been used to predict real oil spill situations. Results have demonstrated that the system can accurately predict the presence of oil slicks in determined zones. It has been demonstrated that using a distributed architecture can enhance the overall performance of the system.

The system is embedded within a global project whose objective is to develop an intelligent environment for location and identification within dependent environments that merge with other types of technologies. Vision algorithms are very costly and take a lot of time to respond, which is highly inconvenient if we consider that many applications can require action to be taken in real time. An agent architecture can automate the process of analyzing images obtained by cameras, and optimize the procedure.

One of the most important technologies used to provide context-awareness to a system is Wireless Sensor Networks. This paper describes last improvements made on ALZ-MAS, an Ambient Intelligence based multi-agent system aimed at enhancing the assistance and healthcare for Alzheimer patients. In this sense, a new ZigBee platform is used to improve ALZ-MAS. This platform provides the system with new telemonitoring and locating engines that facilitate the integration of context-awareness into it.

On the one hand, WSNs comprise an ideal technology to develop Real-Time Locating Systems (RTLSs) aimed at indoor environments, where existing global navigation satellite systems do not work properly. On the other hand, agent-based architectures allow building autonomous and robust systems that are capable of working on highly dynamic scenarios. This paper presents two piracy scenarios where the n-Core platform can be applied. n-Core is a hardware and software platform intended for developing and deploying easily and quickly a wide variety of WSNs applications based on the ZigBee standard. In the first scenario a RTLS is deployed to support boarding and rescue operations. In the second scenario a multi-agent system is proposed to detect the unloading of illegal traffic of merchandise at ports.
