An attempt to put a check on this trend was represented by the Parisian condemnation of 1277. That had a decisive impact, and its reverberations in the following century constitute an indispensable hermeneutic key for deciphering the historical framing of the debate on omnipotence. To the requirements imposed by that condemnation, Duns Scotus responded by introducing a distinction between philosophical omnipotence and theological omnipotence; William of Ockham reacted by going beyond Scotus’s distinction through the formula of potentia Dei absoluta. Through the fruitful dialectics between the two Authors of this contribution, who reproduce – pointing out its challenges – the disagreement between Scotus and Ockham in the matter of divine omnipotence, it is intended to trigger renewed discussions, passionately aiming at studying the mediaeval authors and their texts always anew, taking a fresh look at them, in the awareness that knowledge of them must never be ingenuously thought to have been gained once and for all.

Abstract: The most outstanding acquisition regarding research in John Duns Scotus for the last decades is that concerning his texts about the complex notion of ens infinitum closely connected with the one of ens finitum in its declension of that which is contingent or which is possible. This implies the question of the distinctive aim of metaphysic...

This digital optical module has a novel design with a very large photocathode area segmented by the use of 31 three inch photomultiplier tubes. It has been integrated in the ANTARES detector for in-situ testing and validation. This paper reports on the first months of data taking and rate measurements. The analysis results highlight the capabilities of the new module design in terms of background suppression and signal recognition. The directionality of the optical module enables the recognition of multiple Cherenkov photons from the same 40 K decay and the localisation bioluminescent activity in the neighbourhood. The single unit can cleanly identify atmospheric muons and provide sensitivity to the muon arrival directions.
