Small business businesses need not a specific time for commencement or capital therefore anytime is appropriate for a ready entrepreneur to begin business. Despite the government interventions on sponsorship programmes such as issuing access to loans for small business startup and technical assistance, a big number of businesses have been failing to start while others close down on establishment or after some months or years of operation. The population comprised of 135 respondents comprising of staff of a selected bank and owners of selected businesses in Owerri. A suitable sample size of 100 was selected through the Taro Yamen formula and the simple random sampling techniques were used to obtain the participants responds. Primary data were used for the study and collected through questionnaire and interviews. The data elicited was analyzed and presented using tables and percentage while the hypothesis was tested using chi-square statistical tool. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were adopted for the analysis. The result of the study revealed that lack of infrastructure, poor management, lack of access to financing and unfavourable economic policies are the factors which affect the establishment of SMEs in Nigeria while economic stability, business convenience, profit maximization and creation of value and wealth act as driving force for the establishment of viable SMEs in Nigeria. The study recommends that the government should improve the provision of basic infrastructure and provide entrepreneurial extension services to train these small scale entrepreneurs and their staff in order to improve the poor technical know-how of these enterprises.

The research believes from many authors that cooperative societies started in Nigeria in the early 9th century. It should be noted that life patterns of various communities in the century showed some traits of cooperative societies before the advent of modern cooperative societies. This is understandable because most communities in Nigeria and Africa in general had series of associations. These organisations among others had the following objectives; commercial farming through collective efforts, construction of rural roads, extension of credit facilities to members etc. farmers’ cooperative society can be depicted from the above explanations. The farmers are the producers of agricultural products, in that regard, records showed that these farmers’ cooperatives either die soon after registration or get stifled halfway. Questionnaire and personal interview were used.

Deadly construction accidents are quite common in Nigeria where the rules and procedures are often disregarded. The study whose primary objective seeks to investigate the challenges of accident. The causes of construction accidents were identified to include lack of awareness, nature of construction projects, lack of proper supervision and lack of alertness of workers, improper equipment and housekeeping, ignorance of the use of protection equipment and poor judgment on the current state of some materials used for construction. Factors affecting accident investigation include unrealistic timeframes, failing to differentiate potential for serious outcomes, narrow focus, culture undermining and ineffective communication of investigation results. The study adopted the survey method. The population size comprised of 100 staff of Arab Construction Company and a sample of 80 respondents was drawn using Yaro Yamen formula. The study revealed that Arab Construction Company have established and maintained health and safety policy in their construction site but most of her employees have limited knowledge about the guiding principles of a health and safety management system, and therefore recommends the propagation of health and safety management through national sensitization programmes and other forums where professional bodies with government departments enlighten contractors on the importance of imbibing health and safety culture in their work places in a bid to reduce risks and accidents; and also to ensure compulsory contract documentation and strict procurement procedures on every construction project so as to make project-clients more proactive to issues of health and safety in their projects in prevention of accidents instead of the usual reactive response to compensation claims when an accident has already happened and injuries suffered.
