For this purpose, patients with Type-II diabetes (n=218) were recruited from various hospitals in Turkey. This study aims to examine the psychometric properties of the dispositional SAM (SAM-D) by utilizing the samples of Turkish university students (n= 470) and community members (n= 170). In order to evaluate factor structure of the scale obtained by previous literature, confirmatory factor analysis is used by Amos 7.0 (Arbuckle, 2006) software program. The results demonstrate that the five-factor model reveals significant results in both samples in terms of goodness of fit indexes in confirmatory factor analysis. Possible Correlates of Posttraumatic Growth Among Patients with Type II Diabetes

The present study aims to evaluate the role of possible psychosocial variables associated with Posttraumatic Growth (PTG) among outpatients with diabetes with a history of inpatient treatment. Within a theoretical framework of the model of Schaefer and Moos (1998), the roles of perceived social support, self-efficacy, diabetes-related variables, and cognitive processing have been examined by employing structural equation modeling in a sample of outpatients with diabetes having a history of at least one inpatient treatment. A total of 275 diabetic outpatients, 183 women and 92 men, who were treated at least once in a hospital, participated in the study. The mean age of participants was 52.09 ± 9.49 years. Diabetes-related factors mediated the relationship between perceived social support and PTG. Also, cognitive processing mediated the relationship between self-efficacy and PTG. Increasing patients' self-efficacy and facilitating social support networks should be taken into account when designing psychosocial intervention programs in diabetic patients, as the programs with content support high control perception of their health. Kronik bir hastalık olan diyabet, bireylerin yaşamlarını çarpıcı biçimde etkiler. Bu çalışma yatarak tedavi alma öyküsü bulunan diyabetli hastalarda travma sonrası gelişim (TSG) ile ilişkili olası psikososyal değişkenlerin rolünü değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Schaefer ve Moos (1998) modelinin teorik çerçevesi dikkate alınarak, diyabetli hasta grubunda algılanan sosyal desteğin, öz yeterliliğin, diyabetle ilgili değişkenlerin ve bilişsel işlemenin rolü yapısal eşitlik modeli kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Araştırmaya diyabet nedeniyle yaşamında en az bir kez hastanede tedavi gören 183 kadın ve 92 erkek olmak üzere toplam 275 ayaktan tedavi gören diyabet hastası katılmıştır. Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 52.09 ± 9.49 yıldır. Bulgulara bakıldığında, diyabetle ilgili faktörlerin, algılanan sosyal destek ile TSG arasındaki ilişkiye aracılık ettiği görülmüştür. Ayrıca, bilişsel işlemleme, öz yeterlilik ve TSG arasındaki ilişkiye aracılık etmiştir. Hastaların öz yeterliliğini arttırmak ve sosyal destek ağlarını kolaylaştırmak içerikli programlar, hastaların sağlıklarına ilişkin yüksek kontrol algısını desteklediği için diyabetli hastalarda psikososyal müdahale programları tasarlarken dikkate alınmalıdır.

Psychological well-being in older adults is an important issue in Geropsychology and there is an ... more Psychological well-being in older adults is an important issue in Geropsychology and there is an increasing interest about the older adults living in the community and at home. Understanding markers of well-being associated with either living in an institution or at home would help to explore certain unique variables that make the older adults' life difficult. Among older adults, depression decreases the quality of life and affect the individual's lifespan significantly. However, there have been few studies investigating institution-specific or home-specific markers of depression which are the aims of the current study. The present study aims to make comparison between 924 the older adults residing in institutions to 846 the older adults residing at home in terms of socio-demographic variables and health related variables. Women living at home had higher depression scores than women in the institution. Conversely, men living in institutions were more depressed than living at home while married older adults at home have lower depression scores. Education and income are inversely associated with depression scores. As the number of illnesses increases so does the level of depression. Finally, there is a negative relationship with perceptions of prognosis and perceptions of threat regarding their medical conditions and depression. The interaction of gender, income and residence type is discussed in detail within a cultural context. Possible implications are suggested to improve the psychological well-being of older adults and specific needs of different populations of older adults based on their residence type are addressed.

In the literature, concepts such as family balance, family communication types, family self-regard are some essential aspects of Virginia Satir's family counseling theory, which is one of the most influential theories that enable applications on the family cases and its dynamics; these concepts are also functional in many areas and bring a different perspective to look at older ages and late adulthood. The aim of this study is to examine the theories of developmental psychology and social psychology in adulthood and later adulthood, together with the basic concepts of Virginia Satir's family therapy. In this respect, the examination of later adulthood will be carried out with the film analysis method by examining the "On Golden Pond" movie.

Psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Flourishing Scale and the Scale of Positive and Negative Experience

This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation... more This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS; developed by ) in a Turkish sample. For this purpose, first, the factor structure of the scale was examined with a sample of 338 university students, and an identical factor structure with the original scale was obtained with the exclusion of a single item. Following the confirmation of the 6-factor structure of the scale with the current Turkish sample, the whole scale's and its six subscales' reliability coefficients were examined via internal consistency and test-retest reliability coefficients. These reliability analyses indicated satisfactory coefficients. As for the concurrent validity, the correlations of DERS and its subscales with measures of psychological distress were examined. This examination generally revealed strong correlations, although the awareness factor of DERS had relatively weaker correlations with the measures of psychological distress. Finally, concerning the criterion validity, all the measures of DERS could significantly differentiate the participants with ''high psychological distress'' from those with ''low psychological distress''; however, for the awareness subscale the effect size was small. These findings were discussed in line with the relevant literature.

The Psychological Effects Of The Losses In Exile Experiences: A Qualitative Research

One of the most challenging experiences in life is the exile of a person from the land where she/... more One of the most challenging experiences in life is the exile of a person from the land where she/he was born and lived for political or punitive reasons and the prohibition of her/his return back to the homeland. Beyond the heavy burden of all vital difficulties and limitations caused by the exile event, the constant feeling of homelessness, inaccessibility of the motherland, and the vitality of memories, the losses during exile have a shocking effect on the individuals. The therapeutic effect of time can not explain the recovery from the psychological effects of losing the closest relative (mother, father, brother, grandfather, grandmother, etc.) in a locked and wrecked wagon. A total of 59 Ahiska Turks, who had lost their relatives and witnessed these losses, were interviewed. The age of the participants ranged from 75-94. The feelings and thoughts of the participants about the pre-exile life, exile life, after exile life, today&#39;s life and future life were recorded by a video. The face-to-face interviews took an average of one to two hours. Qualitative analysis of video recordings was performed with MAXQDA 12, and a total of 182 memo records were recorded. It was observed that there were losses in the four groups: Relatives who died in the war while in exile, relatives who died in wagons on the journey of exile, relatives who did not return from the military and lost and relatives who died immediately after the exile. It has been observed that the memories and negative psychological effects related to these losses have been reflected in the discourses despite long years.

With the speedy development of technology, mobile phone addiction is rapidly spreading due to cha... more With the speedy development of technology, mobile phone addiction is rapidly spreading due to changes in people's needs and interests. Although mobile phone addiction is still not listed as a category in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-5; APA, 2013), it is increasingly mentioned in several studies. Basic indicators identified for psychological dependencies such as persistent failed attempts, preoccupation, loss of sense, tolerance, and withdrawal symptoms are also mentioned as psychological symptoms of mobile phone addiction. The Adapted Mobile Phone Use Habits (AMPUH) and The Adapted Cell Phone Addiction Test (ACPAT) are two inventories for assessing the psychopathological behavior associated with mobile phone use. The present study aims to test the psychometric properties of the AMPUH and the ACPAT in Turkish culture. For this purpose, in addition to the AMPUH and ACPAT scales, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression (CES-D) are applied to university students (N = 261) and adults (N = 298) in two separate studies. The reliability and validity analyses showed that both scales are reliable and valid in Turkish culture. The findings and limitations of the study are discussed in light of the relevant literature and recommendations are made for future research.

The interaction of older adults with their physical and social environment is so important to promote age-friendly societies. In the present study, it is aimed to explore variables associated with satisfaction among older adults living at home and nursing home. Participants were composed of 1770 older adults living at home (N= 846) and nursing home (N=924). Results revealed that, regarding variables associated with home satisfaction, older adults having at least a hobby, participating in social activities, living with her/his spouse and living at a home belongs to her/himself or spouse had higher scores of satisfaction than their counterparts. Regarding variables associated with nursing home satisfaction, older adults referred to a nursing home by herself/himself, older adults having visitors (a family member or another person rather than a relative) at a nursing home, older adults visiting her/his family and older adults having at least a hobby had higher satisfaction scores than counterparts. Results were discussed with the literature and clinical implications.

Araştırmaya katılan 210 kent parkı kullanıcısına sosyo-demografik ve kullandıkları park ile ilgili özellikleri içeren anketin yanı sıra öznel iyi oluşu ölçen iki anket gönüllülük ve gizlilik ilkeleri çerçevesinde uygulanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre kent parklarının kullanımı ile öznel iyi oluş arasında anlamlı ve pozitif yönde bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Kent parklarını kullanan katılımcılar park kullanmaya başladıkları ana göre fiziksel, zihinsel ve sosyal açıdan daha olumlu yaşantılar rapor etmiştir. Bulgular ışığında, park kullanan birey sayısının arttırılmasının yanı sıra kent parklarının tasarım ve planlanmasında bireylerin psiko-sosyal ihtiyaçlarının dikkate alınması önerilmektedir.

The role of personality traits in Facebook and Internet addictions: A study on Polish, Turkish, and Ukrainian samples

The aim of the present study was to explore whether there were personality traits associated with Facebook addiction and Internet addiction across three different cultures. The participants were 1011 Facebook users from Poland, Turkey, and Ukraine. We administered the Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale, the Internet Addiction Test, and the Ten Item Personality Inventory. We found that in the total sample Facebook addiction was positively associated with Internet addiction, while Internet addiction was negatively associated with emotional stability, conscientiousness, and extraversion. The lack of invariance across the countries indicates that the tested links are not the same in each of them, which may suggest the role of cultural factors in this phenomenon. The results are discussed in the light of Facebook addiction and personality literature. The application of culturally sensitive intervention programs in dealing with Facebook addiction is encouraged.

The study consisted of 2589 participants from eight countries: China, Greece, Israel, Italy, Poland, Romania, Turkey, USA. Facebook intrusion and Internet penetration were taken into consideration. In this study the relationship between Facebook intrusion and Internet penetration was demonstrated. Facebook intrusion was slightly negatively related to Internet penetration in each country.

We examined the factor structure and psychometric properties of the MAC-R in a sample of 290 undergraduates. We found that a brief 3-factor oblique model (composed of 12 items) of the MAC-R provided acceptable fit to the present sample data. This model was largely invariant across male and female participants. The brief version of the MAC-R (the BMAC) and subscale scores correlated significantly with scores from related measures of eating disorders, showing evidence of concurrent validity. The BMAC total and subscales also showed evidence of discriminant validity by differentiating between empirically defined subclinical eating disorders and control participants.
