Process parameter determination for small recycling plants for the production of filament for FFF printing using the Taguchi method

With the increasing use of the filament fabrication process, the in-house production of filament ... more With the increasing use of the filament fabrication process, the in-house production of filament and the recycling of PLA waste is becoming more and more important. Small desktop filament extruders with associated peripherals enable small businesses and private users to carry out these recycling processes. Determing the right process parameters is of crucial importance here. These are usually only issued by the polymer manufacturer and the machine manufacturer. However, the development of own process parameters is important for new polymer compounds, as well as polymers with unknown manufacturers, as is typical in recycling. The common Taguchi method, which is used for process optimisation within the FFF process, was also used in this article to produce improved parameter sets for the production of filament using a single screw extruder (3devo Precision) with four heating zones. In this experimental field, the Taguchi method did not prove promising. Due to the small dimensions and compact design of such desktop filament extrusion machines, it was found that the setting parameters cannot be considered independently. The main parameters influencing the process were identified as the extruder screw speed, the cooling capacity and the temperature of the heating coil at the hopper. Nevertheless, parameter sets for PLA pellets and recycled PLA could be developed which have a better performance in terms of homogeneity of the diameter over time compared to the previously available parameter sets.

Benchmarking the Nigerian private innovation incubators: Analysis of the influence of firm age, firm size, and employee qualification on their innovation activities

The significance of innovation is partly due to the influence of innovation incubators (IIs). IIs are significant interfacial firms that contribute to the transfer of technologies from inventors to the commercial sector. Existing literature on the contribution of IIs in Nigeria focused on government-funded technology-based incubators, whereas no study has investigated the impact of privately owned IIs. Since this is a novel study in the Nigerian context, we employed a mixed methods research approach. Qualitative data were gathered from private IIs (PIIs), and cross-tabulation analysis was used to test the relationships between the variables. The study reveals that firm size influences the ability of PIIs to generate funds through self-funding and their ability to generate revenue from their innovation expenditure.

Die (älteren) Menschen wünschen sich eine dauerhafte Erhaltung ihrer Gesundheit, um länger selbst... more Die (älteren) Menschen wünschen sich eine dauerhafte Erhaltung ihrer Gesundheit, um länger selbstständig am alltäglichen Leben partizipieren zu können. Unternehmen jeglicher Art stehen vor der Herausforderung, geeignetes Personal zu finden, das langfristig verfügbar ist und die tätigkeitsspezifischen Anforderungen erfüllen kann. Eine Strategie, um erstens die beruflichen Anforderungen länger erfüllen zu können und zweitens die Teilhabe alternder bzw. körperlich eingeschränkter Personen in allen Lebensbereichen zu ermöglichen, liegt in der Entwicklung und Bereitstellung technischer Unterstützungssysteme. Entsprechende Systeme, die den Menschen präventiv und operativ, angepasst an individuelle Bedürfnisse und spezifische Tätigkeiten, unterstützen, stellen einen vielversprechenden Ansatz dar. Sie müssen die individuellen Anforderungen des Menschen (z.B. Größe, Funktionalitäten und Bedienbarkeit) sowie der Unternehmen (z.B. Qualität, Auslegung und Verfügbarkeit) erfüllen und dürfen den Menschen beim Gebrauch nicht behindern, einschränken und verletzen. Im nachfolgenden Abschnitt werden zunächst die Ausgangssituation und bereits entwickelte Systeme bzw. Ansätze zur Unterstützung des Menschen im Berufs-und Alltagsleben aufgezeigt. Darauf aufbauend werden wesentliche Forschungsfragen abgeleitet und Ansätze für zukünftige Unterstützungssysteme aufgezeigt. 2.1.2 Ausgangssituation In nahezu allen Lebenssituationen ist eine zunehmende Verbindung bzw. Interaktion von Mensch und Technik spürbar. Teilweise wird diese Entwicklung als "Technikabhängigkeit" konnotiert. Überwiegend wird Technik allerdings in "guter" Absicht z.B. zur Erhöhung von Komfort und Bequemlichkeit sowie aufgrund der gegenüber dem Menschen vorteilhaften bzw. überlegenen Eigenschaften technischer Systeme (u.a. Ausdauer, Wiederholgenauigkeit und Präzision) genutzt. Verschiedene Anwendungen können als Indizien einer zunehmenden Verbindung zwischen Mensch und Technik betrachtet werden:  Mobiltelefon, tragbare Computer und Wearables (Konsumgüterindustrie),  Implantate, wie Zähne und Hüftgelenke (Medizintechnik),  Intelligentes Haus und Drahtlosnetzwerke (Kommunikationstechnik),  Mensch-Roboter-Kollaboration (Produktionstechnik),  Geräte für Hilfs-und Pflegebedürftige, wie der computergestützte Rollstuhl und die Greifzange (Pflege und Rehabilitation).

With the spill over of the highly efficient and innovative open source principles to the world of physical goods and products new modes of value creation appear that put traditional economic strategies and assumptions into question by stressing collaboration instead of competition, knowledge sharing engineering and fostering the empowerment of the people to participate and get engaged.The here presented multidisciplinary OpenLabs concept takes into account these new patterns of value creation based on open source principles and is a suitable approach to increase the overall empowerment and participation in local communities in developing, but also in developed countries.

The research work is focused on studying the possible impacts of Industry 4.0 on lean management (LM) tools which play a vital role to foster quality and reliability of products and services that are delivered to the customers. The LM tools which are impacted by the advent of Industry 4.0 and assisting in successful implementation of future smart factory will be investigated in particular focus. An interaction plot matrix is established to quantify the influence of LM tools on Industry 4.0. Interaction between these Industry 4.0 design principles and LM tools reveal several opportunities for achieving synergies thus leading to successful implementation of future interconnected smart factories. Overall, the research work serve as a guideline for industries that are under the transformation phase towards future smart factory and offers space for further scientific discussion.
