I am classical philologist and Renaissance and early modern historian employed as a Senior Research Associate at the Department of Historical Sciences, Institute of Historical and Social Sciences of Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb (Croatia).
I graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Classics (majors: Latin, Ancient Greek and Modern Greek), University of Zagreb. At the same Faculty (Department of History) I received M.Phil. in Croatian History. I am holding Ph.D. in Croatian and World Early Modern History (Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb).
I have been involved in the following scientific projects: »Medieval Sources for Croatian History« (Ministry of Science and Education - MZOS; 2002 - 2006), »Latin Sources, Studies and Manuals for Social and Economic History« (Ministry of Science and Education - MZOS; 2007 - 2013), »Sources, Manuals and Studies for Croatian History from the Middle Ages to the End of the Long 19th Century« (The Croatian Science Foundation - HRZZ; 2015 - 2019), »Historiographies of Early Modern Southeast Europe - HEMSEE« (Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies at the Austrian Academy of Sciences; 2019 - 2021) and »Sources for Croatian History: Research, Critical Editing and Analysis« (The Croatian Science Foundation - HRZZ; 2023 - present).
I am preparing the editio princeps of the manuscript »De rebus Dalmaticis libri octo« (1602) by Dinko Zavorović (Dominicus Zavoreus, cca. 1540-1608) and, as a member of a team, the 3rd volume of »Codex diplomaticus Regni Croatiae, Dalmatiae et Slavoniae: Supplementa«.
My scholarly approach is interdisciplinary, it combines philological and historiographical methods of research by placing particular focus on the publishing of Latin archival sources (transcriptions, critical editions and translations).
Most of my publications are contributions to Croatian and European historiography of the Renaissance and early modern period. My academic interests include Neo-Latin studies, Latin palaeography, codicology, auxiliary historical sciences, Renaissance and early modern social, ecclesiastical, cultural and intellectual history, urban elites in the Eastern Adriatic communes, Habsburg-Ottoman and Venetian-Ottoman relations, inter-cultural influences in Central and South Eastern Europe during Renaissance and early modern period and historiographical production of the cultural circles of Dalmatian communes, especially the city of Šibenik.

clergy and noblemen and the role this image played in constructing the political identity of the Croatian lands. The main goal of this image was to create a sense of unity among the Croatian elite and to defend their position against Venetian, Ottoman, Habsburg and Hungarian influence.
Zavorović scholars who have dealt with this so-called scandal, however superficially, all reach the conclusion that the main culprit was a man named Robertus Bonaventura Britanus, thus agreeing with Zavorović’s own opinion.
Because of the scarce data on the aforementioned events,
our knowledge of what really happened to Zavorović’s manuscript remains limited, though the dearth of information does not justify the lack of any detailed scholarly analysis of Zavorović’s written testimony of his meeting with Robertus Bonaventura Britanus, and the basis of his accusation. Despite the crucial role Bonaventura undoubtedly played in
the events leading to the disappearance of the first version of the work De rebus Dalmaticis, the British priest remains almost completely unknown in the international and Croatian scientific community.
Although the main reason for this study is to present recent findings about Robertus Bonaventura Britanus, as well as to integrate the collected data into existing knowledge about the aforementioned literary scandal, the research itself will start with a detailed analysis of the text of two epistles Dinko Zavorović exchanged with Toma Suričević, the archpriest of Šibenik. The contents of these two short texts reveal details about the events that preceded the disappearance of the first version of Zavorović’s De rebus Dalmaticis. Taking into account the
above, this study has two main goals: first, to clarify at least partially the identity of Robertus Bonaventura Britanus and, second, to reconstruct the fragments of important and related events to shed new light on the disappearance of the first version of De rebus Dalmaticis. ""
