Abstract

Tujuan dari program sosialisasi ini adalah untuk menambah wawasan dan pengetahuan dalam berbahasa Inggris yang dimiliki oleh siswa. Kegiatan sosialisasi yang dihadiri oleh 32 siswa ini bertempat di SMP NEGERI 3 Jalan Lagu boti ujung Pematangsiantar pada tanggal 17 Mei 2023. Sosialisasi ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode Game Based Learning dan juga diskusi tentang berbagai permasalahan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang sering dihadapi oleh perserta didik. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini adalah siswa menjadi termotivasi dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris melalui diskusi setelah pemaparan materi selesai. Dari kegiatan sosialisasi tersebut, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa peserta didik mampu belajar Bahasa Inggris dengan menyenangkan sesuai dengan topik yang telah dibawakan.

Abstract

The research aims to identify potential challenges Indonesian students may encounter while learning English as a foreign language. This research identify the differences and similarities between adverbs in English language (EL) and Toba Language (TL) using a contrastive analysis methodology. Adverbs are essential elements of grammar, influencing the structure of expressions in both languages. The study employs qualitative descriptive research, generating written descriptions of the objects under investigation. By comparing the adverbs in EL and TL. The analysis covers forms, meanings, and positions of adverbs in both languages. The findings may provide valuable insights and recommendations for both English-speaking teachers and Indonesian educators to enhance the teaching and learning process of English to Indonesian students. The research contributes to the understanding of the linguistic differences between English and TL, aiding language learners in mastering these languages more effectively.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perkembangan plot dalam 10 cerita alkitab menggunakan pendekatan jenis plot dari sebuah kalimat dalam setiap cerita Alkitab. Melalui pemetaan peristiwa cerita Alkitab, identifikasi konflik dari setiap cerita penelusuran resolusi, Denoument, falling down, Rising up, inciting, exposition, climax, ending. Plot tersebut berfungsi sebagai yang terutama dalam sebuah cerita dan menghubungkan karakter dan peristiwa untuk mencapai tujuan cerita. Sehingga, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, meskipun pola plot pada cerita tersebut memiliki ciri khusus yang berkaitan dengan penyampaian pesan moral, analisis ini memberikan pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang peran plot dalam memperkuat pesan moral yang ingin disampaikan oleh penulis. Dengan mendapat pemahaman tentang cara menganalisis cerita Alkitab dari sebuah jenis plot sehingga penelitian ini akan bermanfaat bagi pembaca, serta peneliti cerita tokoh Alkitab.

Abstract

This research explores the song "Better Man" by Westlife to uncover its experiential meaning and how it impacts the audience. Using the Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) framework, the study analyzes the song's meaning by examining the processes, participants, and circumstances in the lyrics. Qualitative content analysis is employed to identify various emotional experiences expressed through language. The study involves deconstructing each sentence to understand how participants, processes, and circumstances are used in the song. The primary data source is the authentic lyrics from reliable sources like official songbooks and verified lyric websites to ensure accuracy. The SFL theory helps examine experiential meta function and its components in the lyrics, considering the entire complexity of language in social contexts. The analysis reveals that "Better Man" predominantly employs mental processes, reflecting the singer's personal thoughts and perspectives. The use of verbs like "love," "say," and "hidden" effectively conveys emotions and interactions between individuals. The song's participants, such as "better man" and "her," create emotional connections with listeners. The findings emphasize the importance of language as an expressive tool in art and music, guiding songwriters in effectively communicating deeper messages and meanings. Song lyrics, with their emotional storytelling, establish powerful connections with the audience. While this study offers valuable insights into "Better Man," there is potential for further research. Analyzing more songs and genres can deepen the understanding of how language conveys experiences and emotions in music's broader context. Abstract

The use of learning media is one of the important things in the era of increasingly rapid technological development. It makes learning interesting and effective. An effective English language and teaching media in this new era is Duolingo. It provides methods of learning while playing games, which certainly attracts the attention of language learners. The effective use of Duolingo application is described based on the result of pretest and posttest comparison. The research method is quantitative based on the participants’ scores. The test is vocabulary test which addressed into the students of class XII SMA N 1 PERUMNAS BATU 6 as the participants. Data analysis indicate that Duolingo application is an effective English language and teaching media. The average score in pretes is 64. 53 and it becomes 91.13. This research concluded that Dulingo help the participants to improve English vocabulary knowledge.
