Abstract

The Form of Imagery in the Novel Kata by Rintik Sedu. (supervised by Ita Suryaningsih and Fitrawahyudi) This research is qualitative research which aims to identify the form of imagery contained in the novel Kata. This research uses a qualitative descriptive data analysis method. The data source in this research is the entire content of the novel Kata. The techniques used in collecting data are (1) Library technique, which is a technique that uses written sources to obtain data, (2) Listening technique, by reading the novel entitled Kata by Rintik Sedu carefully and thoroughly so that the aims and objectives of the novel what is researched can be explained well, (3) Note-taking technique, this recording is done using a writing instrument or with the help of a computer. The data analysis technique used in this research uses the analysis model according to Milles and Huberman which includes four components, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on the research results, the forms of imagery used in the novel entitled Kata by Rintik Sedu are images of sight, hearing, movement, touch and smell. The results of the research found a total of two hundred and nineteen data which was divided into ninety-one data on visual imagery, thirteen data on auditory imagery, sixty-six data on movement imagery, forty-eight data on tactile imagery, and one data on olfactory imagery. It can be concluded that the novel Kata has various forms of imagery.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the dominant, negotiating, and oppositional positions in the film Level 16 in representing women's struggles against patriarchal power. The method used is qualitative content analysis with observation techniques and visual documentation of scenes, dialogues, and symbols that appear in the film. Primary data is the film Level 16, while secondary data is obtained from feminist theory literature and media studies. Stuart Hall's representation theory is used to identify three positions of reading meaning, namely dominant, negotiating, and oppositional. The results of the study show that the dominant position is displayed through institutional control over the bodies and behavior of girls in the academy. The negotiating position is seen from the main character's doubts about the system, while the oppositional position is manifested in acts of resistance and escape. This study confirms that Level 16 symbolically conveys criticism of the patriarchal and capitalist systems through the construction of a dystopian narrative. These findings reinforce the relevance of social feminism theory and media representation in shaping gender awareness. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi posisi dominan, negosiasi, dan oposisi dalam film Level 16 dalam merepresentasikan perjuangan perempuan terhadap kekuasaan patriarkal. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis isi kualitatif dengan teknik observasi dan dokumentasi visual terhadap adegan, dialog, serta simbol-simbol yang muncul dalam film. Data primer berupa film Level 16, sementara data sekunder diperoleh dari literatur teori feminisme dan kajian media. Teori representasi Stuart Hall digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi tiga posisi pembacaan makna, yakni dominan, negosiasi, dan oposisi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa posisi dominan ditampilkan melalui kontrol institusi terhadap tubuh dan perilaku perempuan-perempuan dalam akademi. Posisi negosiasi terlihat dari keraguan karakter utama terhadap sistem, sedangkan posisi oposisi terwujud dalam tindakan perlawanan dan pelarian. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa film Level 16 secara simbolik menyampaikan kritik terhadap sistem patriarki dan kapitalistik melalui konstruksi narasi distopia. Temuan ini memperkuat relevansi teori feminisme sosial dan representasi media dalam membentuk kesadaran gender.
