Bikjer and Pinch's "Social Construction of Technology" provides a theoretical basis for interpreting the emergence, growth, and diversity of digital archives. In addition, Foucault's notion of discursive communities provides another theoretical basis for explaining the formation and use of digital archives. Bhaskar's epistemology, critical realism underpins both SCOT and discursive communities.
