From Proto-Finnic *sää (compare Karelian seä, siä, šiä, Veps sä, Votic sää), from Proto-Finno-Ugric *säŋe (“air”) (compare Hungarian ég (“sky”) and Komi-Zyrian сынӧд (synöd, “warm air”)).
