The Ōtepoti Dunedin weekly meetups are a chance for Wiki people (Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikisource, and so on) to get together, get advice, get collaborations started. Everybody's welcome, beginners or experienced.
Venue
[edit]- Seminar Room 2, Central Library, University of Otago (look for the Wikipedia banner by the library's west entrance)
- Friday, 3 October 2025
- 12.30 to 1.30pm
Come along and get stuck into some wiki-work, or learn from other editors about the things they're working on.
Attendees
[edit]Add your Wikipedia username if you have one. Tip: in Source editing you can just type asterisk-space-three tildes (* ~~~)
Apologies
[edit]What have we been up to?
[edit]- Uploaded some images to help people find the Lunchipedia room, and made a category on Wikimedia Commons for Wikimedia meetups in Dunedin.
- Created event pages for the rest of the Lunchipedia sessions
- Had a chat with a librarian who may help transcribe Frances Browne's book next week
Upcoming events
[edit]- Next week (10 Oct) Otago academic Tom McLean is in Ireland at an annual festival dedicated to the author, Frances Browne. We will have a short introduction to WikiSource, so we can help transcribe Frances Browne's book of Irish fairy tales from 1857 on WikiSource, to create a lendable e-book.
Outcomes and tips
[edit]- DrThneed will demo some simple edits for new editors.
- To practise your skills, DrThneed has some suggested edits to improve the Tuvalu language page, the Māori language week page, the Logan Park High School page, and the Dunedin Public Libraries page. But you can work on whatever you like! Suggestions are in this Google doc
