The result was delete. There is unanimity amongst the commentators that this article fails WP:GNG. Just Chilling (talk) 23:31, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

The subject has not played in any first-class matches, as claimed in the article (there was no first-class cricket in the 1740s), leaving us with some info that he was the middle brother of two cricketers, and the uncle of another. Being related to these guys doesn't imply notability. Fails WP:CRIN and by extension WP:GNG. StickyWicket (talk) 22:58, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

- Delete as notability is not inherited from Richard Newland - who I can see a case for keeping. There's probably a case for bundling Adam Newland in with this as well for precisely the same reasons. Fails GNG - we'll not be able to get anything very much that's not related to his brother. Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:22, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

- Weak delete – Looking through Google Books I can find some fairly significant coverage in the book Sussex cricket in the eighteenth century: "John+Newland"+cricketer&dq="John+Newland"+cricketer&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj199_0v9_fAhUKFogKHechAJEQ6AEIJjAA A mention to him also exists in "john+newland"+"cricketer"&dq="john+newland"+"cricketer"&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi-kIj3wN_fAhUO7mEKHYcTDvcQ6AEIPDAE (which interestingly says something about one of his brothers probably being an uncle). There's a bit in a whole lot of books when you dig, yet nothing quite enough to constitute WP:SIGCOV. Redirection isn't possible due to the disambiguator. If anyone can dig further than me that would be great. P.S. Apparently he was the captain at some point too. If this article does survive (which I severely doubt) it could use some beefing up. –J947 (c), at 01:24, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

- Delete. Not even a valid claim of notability it seems. --Michig (talk) 18:11, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
