Information icon Hello, and thank you for your interest in starting a Request for Comment. Before opening an RfC, please take a moment to review the recommended preparation steps. Doing so helps your RfC attract more constructive participation, avoids it being closed prematurely, and helps conserve our most precious resource: volunteer editor time.

Before starting an RfC, try just having a normal discussion on the article Talk page first. You may reach a consensus, and have no need for an RfC. If that doesn't work, other methods of dispute resolution are available:

  • if just two of you are in discussion, try asking for a Third opinion;
  • you can also notify other editors who have worked on the page or topic previously, as well as relevant WikiProjects;
  • design your RfC question to be clear, brief, neutral, and focused; asking for feedback on your RfC question before launching the RfC is a great way to go, especially if it is your first time.

Following these steps will give your RfC the best chance of success and help the community reach consensus more smoothly. Thanks for helping to keep discussions efficient and productive.
