Encoding Errors with Osage Script

[edit]

Not sure how to fix this, otherwise I would have taken a stab at it already, but I just want to bring this to everyone's attention in case y'all weren't aware of it. SomeEnlightenedNarcissist (talk) 20:17, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What specifically needs to be fixed? DRMcCreedy (talk) 20:49, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Alphabet?

[edit]

Why is this article titled alphabet? Every time I've seen it used in reference to the Osage written language, it's always to disclaim it. "Osage is an orthogtaphy, not an alphabet." I have no references on hand, but I know it's been stated in the Osage News more than once. Can we change this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Artheartsoul1 (talkcontribs) 21:15, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Osage has both an alphabet and an orthography. This article is about the alphabet. An alphabet is a set of characters. An orthography is a set of rules for using an alphabet to represent a language. Compare, for example, Greek alphabet to Greek orthography. Gorobay (talk) 02:14, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Origin of I

[edit]

The page says A and E are known, but I isn't. It's quite blatantly taken from Georgian ი Getdincts (talk) 17:56, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Why would Osage, a language from North America, take a character from Georgian? Do you have a source? Snowman304|talk 23:23, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
At least, this is not impossible, since Herman Mongrain Lookout, when designing the alphabet in 2006, probably had Internet access and may have researched which character designs other people were using. Hopefully, he is still alive and well, and somebody can ask him. -- Karl432 (talk) 20:53, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Without a reliable source, this is just speculation and cannot be added to the article. DRMcCreedy (talk) 00:28, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello everyone. I have actually asked Mr. Lookout about this a few years ago after I noticed this similarity. It is just a coincidence :) Hexadecimal99 (talk) 22:53, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
