Missing Info, Copied Articles, and Other Problems
[edit]This article needs many improvements. Presented information is inconsistent within: itself, across other Iraq-related articles it links to, and possibly from the listed sources (from a very brief examination of some citations). The structure is also inconsistent, with some subsections briefly referring to contemporary culture whilst a distinct "Contemporary culture" section is present at the end of the article. Despite this, some sections neglect to mention any contemporary culture, and barring the Cinema section, there are no specific references to culture between the Later Abbasid era up to the 1940s.
Additionally, though significant to Iraq's cultural history and thus worth discussing, the ancient region of Mesopotamia is used near-interchangeably with the modern territory of Iraq. This distinction is crucial as the article states that specific cultural groups dating back to ancient times influenced modern culture without meaningfully demonstrating exact contributions when relevant. I find this notable as other articles exist for subjects pertaining specifically to ancient Mesopotamia, such as the Art of Mesopotamia and Music of Mesopotamia. Because much of the information about Mesopotamia in this article closely/directly copies the sources and text of these other articles, the information becomes redundant. This emphasizes the need for a more representative cultural timeline leading up to the present day.
The Art section previously contained copy-pasted passages from the Baghdad School and Art of Mesopotamia articles, including shared typos which I have corrected. The entirety of the Cinema section is copy-pasted from the Cinema of Iraq article, which I have left unedited as I am not knowledgeable on the subject.
Overall, I've made some edits to address a few of these concerns, though I believe they are insufficient; these initial edits can be significantly improved, as can the rest of the article. I think the best place to start would be by adding information leading up to the 1940s so that more concise information from the Mesopotamian to Abbasid eras can be focused on and so there is better context for contemporary culture and discussing its historical influences. 2tyr (talk) 03:09, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
