Creation of the 2nd Army Group (GA 2) Draft

[edit]

I have initiated this draft to address a significant gap in the documentation of the French Army's high-level command structure during the 1940 campaign. The provided Order of Battle (OOB) has been cross-referenced with several authoritative sources to ensure historical accuracy:

  • SHAT (GUF): Utilized for the official military history and precise command timelines.
  • Mary & Hohnadel: Used to correctly integrate the Fortified Sectors (SF) and Fortress Corps (CAF) along the Maginot Line, which formed the backbone of this Army Group.
  • Osprey (Ian Sumner): Used for the organizational overview as of 10 May 1940. This article is intended to serve as a central "hub" to connect the various subordinate Armies, Corps, and Divisions already present or planned for the English Wikipedia. I welcome any feedback or further refinements regarding specific unit attachments. Lehrling18 (talk) 11:27, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Establishing structural hierarchy for French Army Groups (1940)

[edit]

I have expanded this draft to include a detailed Order of Battle (OOB) based on official records (SHAT) and Osprey Publishing sources.

My goal is to transition this article from a simple list to a functional overview of the French defensive architecture in 1940. Key implementations include:

  • Structural Hierarchy: Since standard navigation templates for French Army Groups (1940) were missing, I have implemented a manual Navbox to illustrate the relationship between the Army Group (GA 2) and its subordinate armies (3rd, 4th, and 5th).
  • Mobilization Logic: The OOB now reflects the distribution of fortress sectors (Secteurs Fortifiés) and active divisions.
  • Interconnectivity: This draft is designed to be part of a broader mapping of opposing forces, specifically linking the French GA 2 with its direct adversary, the German Army Group C.

Feedback on the structure or additional data points from official French sources is welcome. Lehrling18 (talk) 11:59, 18 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Formal Submission

[edit]

I have now added the {{subst:submit}} template to the draft to formally enter the review queue. The article has been fully updated with inline citations and neutral language as documented above. --Lehrling18 (talk) 08:22, 19 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
