Event:Wikicurious: WNC Women's History Month Edit-a-thon
About the event

We invite you to participate in Wikicurious: WNC Women's History Month Edit-a-thon in order to develop pages about people who are important to Western North Carolina and the rest of the region, but are often overlooked.
Our Edit-a-thon is focused on amplifying the stories and figures of under-represented Appalachian artists, writers, and other creators, particularly women in honor of Women's History Month, as well as people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and other disenfranchised communities.
What is an Edit-a-thon?
An Edit-a-thon is a community-organized event that aims to teach folks how to edit, update, and add articles on Wikipedia.
There are many ways to participate, and it's easier than you think! You can add sources to support information already on pages. You can add content to help develop pages that need more verifiable, credible information. You can even just create an account, learn some basics, and fix some typos!
Join us in person on Tuesday, March 24!
From 12pm - 4pm on March 24, we invite you to bring your own laptop to the Buncombe County Special Collections Library and join us in person! You'll be able to get help from librarians to learn how Wikipedia works, become a Wikipedia editor, and find research resources.
A light complimentary lunch will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register in advance to help us plan.
Whether you're joining us in person or virtually, your edits will be tracked so we can see our impact!
Training
If you're new to editing or need a refresher, no problem! Librarians will be available to help at the in person event, or check out these training modules.

Some ideas for articles to work on can be found on this list of Available Articles.
Take a look at this video of notable women in Buncombe County history, or this list of red links covering women listed in the NCpedia for which Wikipedia lacks a biography article. Think someone on the list deserves an article? Start a draft in your user sandbox! Or, consider creating or adding to a Wikidata entry.
