The growth of the Internet in the world provides many opportunities to many people around the wor... more The growth of the Internet in the world provides many opportunities to many people around the world in many different ways. When students are considered, the use of the Internet is mainly for social and entertainment purposes. However, it is very obvious that the Internet provides not only social connection and entertainment, but also academic and scientific information as well. Additionally, the Internet can be used as a tool to learn the latest news all around the world as well as getting any kind of information that serves different purposes such as learning more information about a hobby or health. Therefore, it can be said that the Internet is the source of spreading information quickly to a large audience and of going beyond the limitation of time and space. In the light of the above information, it is vitally important to encourage students to use this invaluable source to get any kind of information they need in their academic studies. For the reasons mentioned above, the aim of this study is look at the students' use of Internet in their academic studies. The participants are around 150 English Preparatory School students in Eastern Mediterranean University. These students have come from different countries in order to study at various departments in the university. The study is carried out in the Spring Semester of the Academic Year 2010-2011.

Regardless of the readiness of teachers and students, they were forced to suddenly switch to remote instruction not to interrupt education. In this process, especially students who do not have access to appropriate technologies have fallen behind their friends due to the digital divide. This educational barrier especially affected elementary students as this is the initial step in education where these younger students should receive education synchronously with their teachers and friends in the classroom. Moreover, if families cannot provide adequate opportunities or access to their children due to their socio-economic status, students who are deprived of this education fall behind from education at this critical age, and this is something that can negatively affect their entire lives. Developing a bullying scale for use with university students

Thus, in this study our aim was to develop a bullying scale for use with university students. In order to do this we categorized their bullying behaviors as physical, verbal, emotional, and cyber; and their bullying status as bully, victim, bully-victim, and bystander. The survey we developed to validate our scale was completed by volunteer participants individually. Exploratory factor analysis was done to determine construct validity of the scale. The internal consistency values were calculated for reliability. The resultant values showed that the developed scale can be accepted as a valid and reliable scale to be used for measuring both bully and victim behaviors among young adults studying at tertiary level.

This can be achieved by understanding their individual differences and considering this in their education. When teachers become aware of different learning styles and the way they learn best, their teaching will highly benefit from this. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the learning styles of prospective teachers in different Departments in the Faculty of Education such as Turkish Language Teaching, Guidance and Psychological Counselling, Pre-school Teacher Education, and Computer and Instructional Technology Teacher Education at Eastern Mediterranean University during the AcademicYear 2009-2010 Spring Semester. Prospective teachers have been asked to complete a Learning Styles Inventory. The data was analysed by using SPSS Statistical Program. It is found that there were differences in the learning styles of prospective teachers according to their Departmental choices and students from Departments with similar subjects have similar dominant styles.

Many students started to use some aspects of Web 2.0 technologies in today's digital environment and they have gained competency in these areas whereas some are still having difficulties in even using the computer. In this changing world, it is a necessity to investigate their perceptions towards Web 2.0 technologies because it is believed that it affects the improvement of learning and interaction among learners and teachers (Hartshorne & Ajjan, 2009). As a result, this study intends to examine the perceptions of the teacher candidates in the Department of Educational Sciences at Eastern Mediterranean University.

Especially Facebook has been very popular amongst the youth and the use of this website has been noticed in the academic field because there are various reasons for this popularity. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the motivation factors of university preparatory school students for using Facebook. The study takes place in the English Preparatory School of Eastern Mediterranean University during the Fall Semester of the Academic Year 2010 - 2011. In the study the scale developed and used by Gülnar, Balci and Qakir (2010) was applied to investigate the motivation factors of using Facebook.

The aim of this study is to find out the perceptions of instructors about the factors that affect... more The aim of this study is to find out the perceptions of instructors about the factors that affect the speaking performance of students during the exam. This study took place in Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). The participants were the full-time instructors at the English Preparatory School (EPS) during the 2008-2009 Academic Year Spring Semester. A questionnaire was prepared and was given to full-time EPS instructors. The collected data was analyzed. As a result, it was found out that the instructors believed that students’ familiarity to the task types and some of attitudinal differences of them could affect their exam results.

This study aims to find out the attitudes of EPS full-time instructors at Eastern Mediterranean U... more This study aims to find out the attitudes of EPS full-time instructors at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Famagusta, North Cyprus, towards the use of instructional technology – such as computers, Over Head Projectors (OHP), data projector, CD player, video, etc. – in their classes during the 2009-2010 Academic Year Fall Semester. For this reason, a questionnaire which identifies teachers’ attitudes towards instructional technology with Likert Scale was prepared. The data was analyzed using SPSS Statistical Program. Although, instructors have positive attitudes towards the use of instructional technology in their classes, they need more information about the use of it.
