My academic and creative contributions to the 7th issue of "Cultivate: The Feminist Journal of the Centre for Women's Studies" (issue 7).
In his 1981 "History of Movie Photography", Brian Coe summarised his assertions about the moving picture work of William Friese-Greene. Here I annotate this text to highlight errors and misleading statements.
The only views of William Friese-Greene in circulation are two radically opposed ones. The reasons for such unhelpful dogmatism and its damaging effects are examined. A more constructive approach to early film history is proposed.
