However, not all areas have received the same attention as is the case of the Jews who lived in the Basque Country during the Middle Ages and in pre-modern times. For this reason, the aim of this paper is to identify and explain the Jewish people, elements and events in the Basque Country during these centuries, on the basis of judicial and notarial documents from different archives in the peninsula.

So I am interested in exploring why a woman in the early modern period would enter a convent and seek a divorce from there. I present identities, different examples and motivations that help to understand this dynamic.

I will therefore begin by analysing the requirements for becoming a notary, followed by the training process and the examination to obtain the notary title. Finally, the linguistic skills of the notaries will be examined, as they also translated into Basque and Spanish. The paper is based on the laws and regulations of the time in the Castilian and Basque territories, as well as on documents from the archives that provide concrete examples.

This legislation was different from the surrounding ones, and it is possible to see that in the fueros existed somehow a gender equality. In this way, for example women participated on an equal footing with the husband in the properties of the marriage and the latter needed his wife's consent to be able to dispose of those goods. This paper focuses on two specific points: on dowries and on the role of women who were named the successor in the familial patrimony, displacing the principle of masculinity of other legal systems.

Specifically, regarding the territory of Biscay and the various laws, norms and ordinances that were in force from the 13 th to the 19 th century. Firstly, there is a presentation of the territory, whose capital city is Bilbao, and the different laws and regulations that were used in that period. All of them are of Basque origin and were used exclusively in this territory. Next, the most common punishments and sanctions are discussed. Moreover, concrete examples, covering trials which took place during those centuries, are given. In order to do so, documents from different archives are used. I consider the latter to be very important as that documentation is the practical reflection of the legal theory. The objective is to give an overview of Basque criminal law from a theoretical point of view, but also its application in the examples that can be found in the archives.

Although the English presence in Ireland had its roots in the twelfth century, it was not until the sixteenth century that Gaelic Irish came face to face with the reality of the English conquest. 2 During Henry VIII's reign, religion became a hot issue when he ordered the dissolution of the religious orders. 3 However, in the seventeenth century the situation worsened due to the English conquest and the intensified colonization by Protestant settlers from Britain.

This is confirmed through both the role of the beaterios leading the birth of conventual female Basque life and its features within the contemporary Basque society.

In order to explain this phenomenon, this study will introduce the different types of families that constituted the Basque elite and then will describe the convents and the reasons for their construction, the motives behind their locations and the consequences of constructing such religious architecture. It is argued that this period of intense building reflected the interests of contemporary society.

My aim is not only to know the personal information of the couples and families involved in these processes, but also the reasons that led to these lawsuits and their social and economic consequences.
