Has been proven in practice that existing models, measures and reports of financial risk fail to capture some important systemic dimensions. Only lately, advisory boards have been established in high level and regulations are directly targeted to systemic risk. In the same direction, a growing number of researchers employ network analysis to model systemic risk in financial networks. Current approaches are concentrated on interbank payment network flows in national and international level. This work builds on existing approaches to account for systemic risk assessment in micro level. Particularly, we introduce the analysis of intra-bank financial risk interconnections, by examining the real case of "cheques-as-collateral" network for a major Greek bank. Our model offers useful information about the negative spillovers of disruption to a financial entity in a bank's lending network and could complement existing credit scoring models that account only for idiosyncratic customer's financial profile. Most importantly, the proposed methodology can be employed in many segments of the entire financial system, providing a useful tool in the hands of regulatory authorities in assessing more accurate estimates of systemic risk.

Its gigantic scale and interdependence allow us our ability to find relevant information and develop trustworthy contexts. It is time for science to compensate by providing an epistemological "antidote" to Web issues. Philosophy should be in the front line by forming the salient questions and analysis. We need a theory about Web being that will bridge philosophical thinking and engineering. This article analyzes existence and spatiotemporality in the Web and how it transforms the traditional actualities. The resulting issues concern the selfdetermination of a being and the way in which the Web could be a free and open platform for innovation and participation.

The emergence of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) has not yet reduced the dichotomy between hard and soft sciences. Contradicting meanings for the same concept or/and dissimilar terms for identical scientific contents often exist within a discipline and among disciplines. We initiate the discussion about meaningful categorization, search and exploitation of scientific knowledge by introducing the concept of intradisciplinary semantic technologies. Gwork analytical framework is extended to trans-disciplinary scientific research in order to open a new path towards unity of scientific knowledge. In this direction, a structural improvement in Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) classification system is demonstrated. Interconnection to ACM Computing Classification System (1998) introduces transdisciplinary semantic technologies.

Specifically, semantic web technologies and grid computing are emerging as the enabling infrastructure for the next decades because they are providing a unified way for managing distributed computing, data and human resources. The fundamental challenge along the way is to provide an integrated bundle of user-centric web services coupled to processing power resources, namely a personal grid e-workspace (g-work) to every citizen. G-work is another step towards ambient intelligence's (AmI) environment vision.

The PSGR ontology is based on the UK payments ontology and reuses, among others, the W3C Registered Organization Vocabulary and the Core Business Vocabulary. RDFized data are linked to product classifications, Geonames and DBpedia resources. Online services contain advanced search features and domain level information (e.g. local government), simple and complex visualizations based on network analysis, linked information about payment entities and SPARQL endpoints. During February 2013, the growing dataset consists of approximately 2 mil. payment decisions valued 44,5 bil. euros forming 65 mil. triples.

Knowledge-Based Semantification of Business Communications in ERP Environments
Springer eBooks, 2013
The complexity of information in business environments is increasing in rates that are difficult ... more The complexity of information in business environments is increasing in rates that are difficult for companies to handle using traditional solutions. The diversity of information and communications that stem from remote and heterogeneous sources creates the need for information management in multi-dimensional contexts and platforms, such as web sources, mobile devices and databases. As web technologies evolve, the volume, temporality and heterogeneity of available data exhibits a degree of dynamicity that is beyond manual control. Without these limitations, the aggregation of this information can provide new value-driving layers in business environments. Moreover, when this data is semantically structured, knowledge sharing and rule-based management allow for new ways of controlling the flow of information, both internally and externally. Focusing on the extraction of information about communications and its exploitation in platform-independent manners, we propose, design and implement a set of semantic components extending ERP systems in order to assist semantic web interoperability, to provide a basis for intelligent knowledge management and to unify communication level platforms under shared sets of principles.

How can we understand, measure and model the Web evolution in order to design effective policies and optimize its social benefit? Early measurements of the Internet traffic and the Web graph indicated the scale-free structure of the Web and other Complex Networks. Going a step further Kouroupas, Koutsoupias, Papadimitriou and Sideri (KKPS) presented an economic-inspired model which explains the scale-free behavior as the interaction of Documents, Users and Search engines. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the open issues arising within the KKPS model through analysis and simulations and to highlight future research developments in Web modeling, which is the backbone of Web Science.

Gradually, public budgets and tenders are becoming openly available and global initiatives promote fiscal transparency and open product and price data. But, the poor quality of economic open data undermines their potential to answer interesting questions (e.g. efficiency of public funds and market processes). Linked Open Economy (LOE) has been developed as a top-level conceptualization that interlinks the publicly available economic open data by modelling the flows incorporated in public procurement together with the market process to address complex policy issues. LOE approach is extensively used to enrich open economic data ranging from budgets and spending to prices. Developers, professionals, public administrations and any other interested party use and customize LOE model to develop new systems, to enable information exchange between systems, to integrate data from heterogeneous sources and to publish open data related to economic activities.

The interdisciplinary study of this impact has crystallised in the field of study known as Web Science. However, defining an agreed, shared understanding of what constitutes web science requires complex negotiation and translations of understandings across component disciplines, national cultures and educational traditions. Some individual institutions have already established particular curricula, and discussions in the Web Science Curriculum Workshop series have marked the territory to some extent. This paper reports on a process being adopted across a consortium of partners to systematically create a shared understanding of what constitutes web science. It records and critiques the processes instantiated to agree a common curriculum, and presents a framework for future discussion and development.

An important effect of these techno-social transformations is that educational systems find difficult to adjust on the demand for new digital skills. The present paper introduces Web Intelligence (WI) as a set of competencies needed to take advantage of all the possibilities the Web has to offer, while staying protected from potential risks. WI is validated in the context of Gardner's Multiple Intelligences fulfilling all the eight criteria. Although, cognitive studies are yet in their infancy and together with psychometric studies should transcend from Internet-Related Problems and experiment on the multidimensional nature of Web usage as defined in WI. The conceptualization of WI provides rich insights and research proposals as a common framework for enriching educational content based on trans-disciplinary approaches of the online environments.

As the Web matures and becomes social and participatory, collaborative filters are the basic complement in searching online information about people, events and products. In Web 2.0, what connected consumers create is not simply content (e.g. reviews) but context. This new contextual framework of consumption emerges through the aggregation and collaborative filtering of personal preferences about goods in the Web in massive scale. More importantly, facilitates connected consumers to search and navigate the complex Web more effectively and amplifies incentives for quality. The objective of the present article is to jointly review the basic stylized facts of relevant research in recommendation systems in computer and marketing studies in order to share some common insights. After providing a comprehensive definition of goods and Users in the Web, we describe a classification of recommendation systems based on two families of criteria: how recommendations are formed and input data availability. The classification is presented under a common minimal matrix notation and is used as a bridge to related issues in the business and marketing literature. We focus our analysis in the fields of one-to-one marketing, network-based marketing Web merchandising and atmospherics and their implications in the processes of personalization and adaptation in the Web. Market basket analysis is investigated in context of recommendation systems. Discussion on further research refers to the business implications and technological challenges of recommendation systems.
